
Fateh Sagar is a perennial storage reservoir constructed in 1678. It was constructed by the former rulers of Mewar for irrigational purposes. Today it is one of the major sources of drinking waters in the
Udaipur city that lies to the northwest part of the city. Fateh Sagar is primarily known as a lake that is also connected to Lake Pichola. It is connected through a canal having gates.
Fateh Sagar Lake is pear shaped and is surrounded by hills. The picturesque beauty of this lake is indescribable. On the eastern side of Fateh Sagar Lake lies a masonry dam. It is about 800 meters in length. Though once upon a time this was a beautiful lake today it is more popularly known as a reservoir that serves the local people.
A runoff emerging from the surrounding the hills drains into Fateh Sagar. A beautiful serpentine road also runs around the
lake. There are three islands around the lake. One has been developed into a public park; the second into houses a solar observatory and the third ahs been beautified with a jet fountain. This lake is a central point as several social and economic activities are held here. To save this lake from drying up organizations looking after environmental hazards had undertake desalting operations.
