Bandipur National ParkWildlife in Karnataka is well taken care of. This is the reason why animal world is at its best in Karnataka. For animal lovers this is the best place to be. The dense forest combined with the blessing of River Cauvery has helped the wildlife to grow in Karnataka. In certain places the common men too look after the well being of the animals. Such factors have helped Karnataka to promote its wildlife as a part of tourism. People from all over the globe drop in with a desire to catch a glimpse of a lurking tiger, jumping cheetal, Indian bison, rare species of birds and numerous other animals.

Bandipur National Park
With Nilgiri mountains as its background Bandipur National Park is a must see for the travelers. It is situated at the Mysore-Ooty road. Elephants, Indian Bison, tiger and other animals are found in good number here. Once a royal hunting ground this reserve now is famous gaming spot. This park came under the program of Project Tiger.

Rajiv Gandhi National Park
Also known as the Nagarhole National Park this park is situated near Bangalore and is accessible from Mysore too. This place is world famous for Asiatic elephants. The reserve derives its name from the river that flows through it, Nagarhole. Besides elephants, predators and other animals this national park is perfect for bird watching.

B R Hills Sanctuary
Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary This sanctuary houses a dense forest and is known for its flora and fauna. A Champak tree as old as 2000 years is to be found here. Tigers, leopards, elephants and several other kinds of animals dwell here. For travelers the coffee estate, tribal settlements and an ancient temple located on hilltop are must see.

Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary
Blessed by River Cauvery the national park is home for many animals like elephants, tigers, crocodiles, deer and others. The rich flora and fauna of this region compels the nature admirers to visit this place. Adventure sports like angling or fishing is also in the program list of this wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka.

Kokkrebellur Pelicanry
Pelicans have at last found a safe haven for themselves and it is located in Karnataka. These migratory birds come to this sanctuary to lay eggs and rear young ones. This place has been discovered in the recent past. The unique characteristic of this pelicanry is that the natives look after these birds and save them from poaching. Apart from pelicans other migratory birds have also been seen here.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary
Dubare Elephant Camp Flying lizards, tigers, hyenas and bisons are the main attraction of this sanctuary. More popularly it is known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary. Located near the Chikmagalur district the national park also shelters reptiles, butterflies and colorful birds. For nature enthusiasts this is a perfect place to be during holidays.

Dubare Elephant Camp
The unique feature of this national camp is that it is a home for those elephants who were once used for commercial purposes. These gigantic animals are well taken care of. A park like this gives the visitors a lifetime opportunity to take a closer look at the elephants.

Apart from these there are other wildlife sanctuaries in Karnataka that are quite interesting. Some of these are exclusively bird sanctuaries that are home to migratory birds and exotic species. The other wildlife parks are Kaggaladu Heronry, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Bannerghatta National Park, Anshi National Park, Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, Gudavi Bird Sanctuary, Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary, Kudremukh National Park and Chamarajnagar. Such animal reserves help to promote eco tourism and spread awareness. The adjoining areas of some of these forests are used for adventure sports too.
