Islamiah College is ennobled by its rich history. In fact it remains a standing edifice of love for education of the Muslim community of Vaniyambadi, who wanted to translate the ideals Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, famous politician and educationist, towards a proper channel. They had established the Vaniyambadi Muslim Educational Society that was registered in 1905. The Islamiah Elementary School began its journey under the society`s sponsorship.
Islamiah High School started functioning in a full-fledged manner from 1912. In 1916, the society bore the idea of forming the Islamiah College and then Lord Pentland, the then Governor of Madras Province, laid its foundation. Finally the college began functioning from 1919, after receiving royal donations from Muslim philanthropists. The College is put up in a building that was inaugurated by Nawab C. Abdul Hakeem Sahib, who had donated a sum of fifty thousand to the society.

Islamiah College offers courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Undergraduate courses include- B.A. in subjects like History, Economics. One can also pursue Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), B.C.A - Bachelor Of Computer Applications. Other courses include- B.Com in Corporate Secretaryship, B.Sc in Mathematics, B.Sc in Physics, B.Sc in Chemistry, B.Sc in Biotechnology, B.Sc in Biochemistry, B.Sc in Computer Science. The college also takes admission in various postgraduate courses like- M.A in History, and M.Sc in subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry and M.Com. Research programmes like M.Phil - Master Of Philosophy and Ph.D - Doctor Of Philosophy are also offered.
Information is an essential input to national development. The undergraduate (UG) library has great responsibility in harnessing the utilisation of information. The library and information centres strive for high quality service, which emphasises the actual delivery of information, rather than the actual delivery of documents for meeting the generic as well as specific needs of the users.
Islamiah College encourages every user to benefit from the library. At present the library has a stock of more than 25,000 volumes of books, over 5,000 paperback volumes of scientific and technical periodicals. The library also subscribes to over 150 specialised journals, from which about 50 are international and 100 national. It follows the open access system, encouraging the user to browse freely in the stack area. The library is housed in a spacious building. It consists of latest national and international journals.
The Islamiah College library is also effective for postgraduate students with its specific collection of scientific books and journals on computers. It remains open on all working days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Facility of Book Bank enables all the poor and deserving students to issue standard textbooks as per recommendation of the teacher concerned for a month.
To initiate an overall growth and development of Islamiah College, a student`s attention is directed towards promoting several games and sport activities. Students are encouraged to take part in several games, like- football, hockey, cricket, volleyball, basketball, baseball, badminton, tennis and table tennis. The college organises an Annual Athletic Meet and awards are given on Sports Day for a pupil`s expertise in games and sports.
Islamiah College also provides hostel facility to its students. The Principal is the ex-officio warden, who is assisted by a deputy warden and resident tutors are also present for supervising and guiding the hostellers. Hostel students are provided with all the necessary facilities to study well. The students` rooms are well decorated with proper electrical arrangements. Hostelites also use camp beds for sleeping. There is a mess that serves only vegetarian meals. The Alumni Association of Islamiah College establishes a constant and significant relationship between the College and its alumni.
