Indasala Cave, Buddhist Pilgrimage Center

Indasala Cave, Buddhist Pilgrimage CenterIndasala Cave is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage centers in India because Buddha delivered one of the most important discourses here. Indasala Cave is also said to be the place where Buddha preached verses 206, 207 and 208 from Dhammapada. Indasala Cave is located near Rajgir. Buddhasrijnana, a famous commentator on Guhyasamaja Tantra, had also dwelled in this cave. As a result this pace is quite important as a religious center.

The Indasala Cave is located at the foothill of a steep cliff known as Giriyek Mountain. Atop the mountain the Hansa Stupa is situated. This is pone of the most integrated stupas that is to be found in India. Indasala Cave has also been mentioned in the accounts of Hiuen Tsang, a Buddhist traveler.

Indasala Caves is accessible from Rajgir via Giriyek Road. Bus and taxi services from Rajgir to Indasala Caves are also available.
