Founded in 1968, Gobi Arts & Science College is one of the premier postgraduate cum research institutes that has received affiliation from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. It is a `grant-in-aid` institute and also a co-educational institution, supervised by Gobi Arts College Council. Registered on 25.8.1967 under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860, this college began with the noble aim of providing scope of learning and education to the underprivileged and meritorious students. Gobi Arts & Science College had a humble beginning, offering only pre-university classes. However within a span of 30 years, the college has shown rapid progress and development due to sincere efforts of the management along with its team of staff members. Located in Gobichettipalayam-638453, Erode District, Tamil Nadu, the college has earned the prestigious autonomous status.

Spread out on an area of forty five acres of land, Gobi Arts & Science college is built atop the `Silver Hills` on the western fringes of the town of Gobichettipalayam, nearly forty km west of Erode town. With autonomous status bestowed in 1987, Gobi Arts & Science College brings about flexibility in its various departments. On the basis of latest trends in the industrial and employment sectors, the college too has fine tuned its infrastructure. The college is in vanguard in distributing knowledge and developmental skill of very high order.

For Post Graduate students Aided Courses (Under CBCS) that are offered include- M.B.E., M.Sc. (Mathematics), M.Com., M.C.A. Un-Aided postgraduate Courses (Under CBCS) are-- M.Sc. in Computer Science, M.Com. in Computer Application, M.Sc. in Physics, M.Sc.(IT), P.G.D.C.A. In its IGNOU Study Centre one also can pursue courses like- B.Com., M.Com., C.L.P.

Professional Education Courses II is offered by ICFAI. Research programmes like M.Phil and Ph.D. are offered both at full time and part time basis. Specialisations that are offered include--Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Computer Science, Tamil, Management, English. The Gobi Arts & Science College Library has a good collection of books including excellent infrastructure. The library is wholly automated. It has a huge collection of 30408 books. In addition it also subscribes to a number of magazines or periodicals, newspapers, international journals.

Apart from academics special attention is given on improving its co-curricular activities. Several Associations are present in the college, including- National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps, Youth Red Cross, Yoga & Meditation Club, Social Service League, Physical Education, Book Depot, Career Guidance and Placement Cell, Fine Arts Club, Blood Donors` Club, Counseling Centre, Debating Club, Students Union, GAIT, GALACY, GACAANA, QUTRIX, CRUCES, ITQuette.

Special scholarships and prizes are awarded to the students of Gobi Arts & Science College. These are-- Dr. K.S. Janakarathnam Memorial Academic Achievement Endowment, Gobi Arts & Science College NSS Endowment, V.K. Ramanathan Memorial Endowment Prizes, O.A. Ramasami Gounder Endowment Scholarship, Aye Gounder Endowment. The College Council has constituted Merit cum Means Scholarship for the 2nd and 3rd Year Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of the college from the academic session of 2002-2003. Its objective is to help the underprivileged and deserving students.

Gobi Arts & Science College possesses good infrastructure, including modern hostel accommodation separately for male and female students. At a time it can provide accommodation to three hundred students with all facilities like internet browsing, games etc. The College canteen houses spacious dining halls individually for both male and female students. There is also a spacious auditorium accommodating one thousand people at a time. Separate resting rooms, conference hall with 250 seats, seminar hall, updated computer centers, internet centres in the institution are worth mentionable. Apart from the College Hostel, there is a Govt. Hostel in which boarding and lodging is free for all Backward, Most Backward and SC/ST students.
