Affiliated to Madras University, Meenakshi College for Women is a Government-aided college that has pioneered the cause of higher education for women for the last three decades. It is one of the newly formed colleges that has achieved autonomous status in 1999.

Meenakshi College for Women made its beginning on 4th August, 1975, marked as the International Women`s Year. Initiated by the Ganapathi Educational Trust, the college has increased multifold from only hundred students in the days of its inception to nearly three thousand members in the present day. Till date the college has been noted for its illustrious work of contributing to the cause of education in India.

Meenakshi College for Women has two shifts - evening and day, offering as many as twenty courses in streams like- Arts and the Sciences. B.A.-History, B.A.-Economics, B.A.-English Literature, B.Sc.-Mathematics, B.Sc. in Physics, B.Sc. in Chemistry, B.Sc. in Plant Biology & Bio-Technology, B.Sc. in Zoology etc, are the undergraduate courses offered to students of Day shift. Commerce aspirants can opt for B.Com, B.Com in Banking Management. Postgraduate courses include- M.Com, M.A in History, Economics, Public Administration, Tamil. Mathematics, Physics, Biochemistry are the subjects offered for Masters in Science. Master of Computer Application is also a chosen course.

Research Programmes can be done, viz. M.Phil in Tamil, Mathematics, History. Ph.D in subjects like Tamil and Economics are also quite popular amongst the students.

Students of Evening College are offered courses like B.A in Economics, B.Com, Bachelors in Computer Science, B.Sc. in Mathematics. Master of Computer Application is a postgraduate course also offered by Meenakshi College for Women.

Located at 363, Arcot Road, Kodambakkam, Chennai - 600 024, this esteemed educational institution is working tirelessly to fulfill the goal with which its founder Sri K.R. Sundararajan had built the college. This scholarly professor of Mathematics and also an educationist, had visualised to improve education in the line of research and knowledge sharing.

"Abhinava Vidyatheertha Computer Center" is a computer laboratory housing 150 PC`s with all the necessary accessories. Besides, all departments have their own individual computers and internet facilities. The college management takes care so that all the amenities and know-how are granted to the students, to excel in the arena of research and academics. The teachers and staffs contribute wholeheartedly, to retain the pride of this educational institute. Following the rules of University Grants Commission ( UGC), Meenakshi College for Women has started Environmental Studies (EVS ) for all its courses. In implementing the course, faculty members, non-teaching staffs and the students have given their wholehearted support.
