Every year the spectacular event of Kadlekayi Parishe takes place in Bangalore. This is one of the traditional celebrations of the tech city and it takes place in the Basavangudi temple. Farmers, in large numbers, flock to the city to participate in Kadlekayi Parishe. This is basically a groundnut fair. The fair is rooted into myths and legends. Basavangudi Temple is dedicated to Nandi, the bull who is Lord Shiva`s `vaahan.` Kadlekayi Parishe generally takes place in the month of December. Kadlekayi Parishe fair commences from the last Monday or Ganesha Somvara in the month of Karthik (Hindu month). This is a kind of thanksgiving ceremony dedicated to Nandi.
Another myth states that on every full moon night a bull charged into the agricultural fields and destroyed the produce. The worried farmers tried to appease the bull by worshipping him. They offered their first yield to the bull and their prayers were answered. From then onward this festival was regularly observed and a fair was arranged for. This traditional fair attracts a huge number of visitors.
