Synopsis of Traffic signal
The Bollywood movie 'Traffic Signal' has no single story as such but is a collage of stories. It has some assorted stories lying together but all beautifully knitted. This film is actually shot about the lifestyle of different people living around a traffic signal in metro cities.
Traffic signal is a common thing in all the cities, but in Mumbai the scene is different. But it is unknown to many that by waiting here they are contributing to the Indian economy in a broader aspect. Many people derive their bread and butter from the Mumbai Traffic signal. There are some beggars including kids and adults, prostitutes, eunuchs and some girls who sell clothes. There are some other people living on the Traffic signal and they are Noorie played by Konkona Sen Sharma, a prostitute who solicits customers at night. There is Dominic played by Ranvir Shorey, a drug addict telling his sad stories to everyone; and there is Haji played by Sudhir Mishra who is a local Criminal to whom all the money collectors from signals give their share.
Silsila grew up at the signal. After doing many jobs now he is a Manager at the signal. He is an ideal manager who is quite sensitive and also caring. He thinks about his workers. But when it comes about the professionalism he becomes ruthless. Silsila works under a small don, Jaffar. He in turn works under the big boss Haji bhaijaan. It is like a chain and all are benefited by the exchange process of hafta. Life goes on at the signal. A young girl, Rani Neetu Chandra, come to sell ethnic Gujrati clothes at the traffic signal. She becomes close to Silsila. Everything proceeds normally. Without the knowledge of Silsila, Haji bhaijaan is forced to destroy the traffic signal. Silsila is unaware of the bigger effects as he carries out his orders without questioning. But reality laughs at him when he is detained in a case of murder, bribery and extortion. Being totally unaware of the things he becomes shattered. Silsila feels helpless as the signal confronts destruction. All the people who grow along with the traffic signal come to extinction. Silsila is forced to choose between his life and his profession.
The movie shows some sites of life of people which is really strange. As for example, the man who begs during daytime goes to see a movie in a multiplex at nighttime. Or sometimes beggar boys buy fairness cream to get fair complexion. One guy who pretends to be an engineer dies because of drug addiction whom the prostitute Noori loves. The killing of Manoj Joshi sets the story in regular motion and finally the climax comes. The end doesn't show the hero winning over the bad guys. Madhur Bhandarkar gives a very naturalistic end to the story 'traffic Signal'.
