Shahrukh in TV and Cinema

Shahrukh started showing his inclination towards anything remotely connected with acting at a very early age. During the early seventies Shahrukh and his family every evening switched to the Vividhi Bharti to listen to songs and news. This is how he cultivated an interest in performing arts. The credit for the phenomenally successful development and management of Shah Rukh`s career goes to the superstar himself. Shahrukh`s first television serial Fauji`s main thrust was youth. Fauji gave Shahrukh the recognition he needed. With his excellent performance in this serial people started identifying him as a star. He gained popularity not only in Delhi but also in Mumbai, since then he started getting offers for movies. Circus was the next popular serial in Shahrukh got an opportunity to demonstrate his acting skills. It was during this serial that Kahn made up his mind to enter the film industry.

Shahrukh`s first television serial Fauji Shahrukh started his film career with Deewana in 1992 for which he won his first FilmFare award.The year 1993 proved to be very successful for this immensely talented actor as both of his films Darr and Baazigaar ruled the box office charts for a considerable span of time. In the former he portrayed the role of an obsessive lover while in the later his portrayal was that of a murderer. Both his negative performances made him won much popularity and recognition. He also won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performances in Baazigaar in the same year and was also awarded the Filmfare Best Actor Award (critics) for his role as a young loser in the film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa by Kundan Shah. In the next year he again appeared in the character portrayal of an obsessive lover or psycho in the film Anjaam that did not fare very well in the box office but his performance in a negative role earned him the Filmfare Best Villain Award that year. In the year 1995 he starred in the directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which was such a huge, hit that it has entered the twelfth year in the theaters of Mumbai grossing over an amount of 12 billion. It is also regarded as one of the biggest film blockbusters in the Indian Film Industry.

The following year was however a disappointing year for Shahrukh Khan as all his films flopped that year. In the year 1997 however he made a great comeback with the year`s second highest grossing film Yash Chopra`s Dil To Pagal Hai, and Subhash Ghai`s Pardes. The other film in this year Yes Boss by Aziz Mirza also did quite well in the box office. In the following year the biggest hit of the year Kuch Kuch Hota Hai made him win his third Best Actor Award at the Filmfare Awards Ceremony. He was also critically acclaimed for his performance in Mani Ratnam`s Dil Se, which did not do well in the box office in the Indian subcontinent but earned good collection overseas.

Shahrukh mind-blowing performance in Mohabbatein In the year 2000 he again rocked the box office by his mind-blowing performance in Mohabbatein and Mansoor Khan`s Josh. In the former film, which included the greatest star of Bollywood Film Industry, Amitabh Bachhan, his performance was even compared with the former superstar of Hindi Cinema. The same year also added another feather to his hat of success as Shahrukh set up his own production house Dreamz Unlimited with his co-star and another great actor of the Bollywood Film Industry, Juhi Chawla. The first film of this production house Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani had the star cast which included the founders of this production house but it did not do well in the box office. In the year 2001 Shahrukh Khan collaborated with Karan Johar for the second with the film Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham that was a muti-starred family movie. It turned out to one of the biggest hits of the year also.

Shahrukh Khan earned several awards for playing the title role as the tragic lover Devdas in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s Devdas. This highly applauded film was an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay`s famous novel sharing the same name. The first successful film of this production company was Chalte Chalte, which released in the year 2003 and turned out to be a huge hit. With Karan Johar he made his third film in the year 2003, which was also the directorial debut of Nikhil Advani. The film titled Kal Ho Naa Ho was one of the year`s biggest hits in India and in the overseas marker as well. His performance in this film made him won several awards at different award ceremonies. Since then Khan, proved to be one of talented actors of Indian Cinema. Another production house was set up by Shahrukh Khan called Red Chillies Entertainment and the first film of this company Main Hoon Na saw Shahrukh Khan playing the lead role and also received good response at the box-office. In the same year Yash Chopra`s Veer-Zaara which had Shahrukh Khan playing the title role of Veer turned out to be the biggest hit of the year. He won several awards for this film as well. The sixth Filmfare Best Actor Award was won by him for his performance in Ashutosh Gowariker`s Swades. This film did not prove to rule the box office but his performance was critically acclaimed. The year 2005 and 2006 did not see much of Shahrukh but in the same year he also played the title role in Don in which proved to be a super duper hit. This film was a remake of the 1978 Don, which had the Big B in the lead role.Shahrukh in film Chak De India Shahrukh Khan also portrayed the role of an underworld don in this film and was very successful. The year 2007 saw him in the film Chak De India in which he plays the role of a hockey coach. This film received the maximum response at Box office. The film served as an boast up for Indian Sports. In the same year Khan was made the brand ambassador for team India for the world 20-20 cricket cup. In the year 2007 Khan also bagged another super hit film called "Om Shanti Om" which received excellent reviews from various analysts.

As a producer also Shahrukh Khan fared quite well and had mixed success as both the producer and the star of his films. After acquiring much fame and wealth he receives a new honor from the French Museum. A life-size wax statue is situated in the world famous Madame Tussaud`s Museum in London. He is in fact the third celebrity from Bollywood to have his replica in the museum, the other two being Amitabh Bachhan and Aishwarya Rai. Many famous well-known authors have taken curiosity in knowing Shahrukh and writing about him.
