Mithun Chakraborty, an Indian movie actor, is a national award winner actor who is also known as a social activist. He is the well known face of several multinational companies. He joined All India Trinamool Congress, and was nominated as Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha.
 
 Mithun Chakraborty, Indian Movie ActorMithun Chakraborty is an Indian movie actor of 80`s, one of the prominent actors of his time. He was born on 16 June 1947 in Kolkata, West Bengal. His real name is Gouranga Chakraborty.

The performance of Mithun Chakraborty in `Disco Dancer` and `Dance Dance` made him an instant hit as a break dancer. He has acted in more than 200 Bollywood films, including some of the Bengali and Bhojpuri films as well. His debut film in Bhojpuri Language, Bhole Shankar is considered as the biggest Bhojpuri film. Similarly his Oriya film Ae Jugara Krushna Sudama where he co-starred with Oriya icon Uttam Mohanty was also a huge success. Mithun is the well known face of different multinational companies in India as the Brand Ambassador.

Bengali films have taken an important role in his life as he has achieved the national awards in `Tahader Katha`, `Mrigaya`, `Swami Vivekananda, Kal Purush and Titli. Two of them are in Bengali language.

Early Life of Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty`s birthplace was in Barisal which is now in Bangladesh. He was educated at the Scottish Church College, Kolkata and then graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. It is a little known fact that Mithun was a staunch Naxalite before entering the film industry. Mithun returned to his family and left the Naxalite fold, at the news of his only brother`s death by an accident. Mithun has also undergone expert training in martial arts.

Mithun Chakraborty worked in his debut film with Mrinal Sen in 1976 named `Mrigaya` which won him accolades and he got the National Film Award for Best Actor. After his debut he played some supporting roles in films such as Do Anjaane and Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. After that he played the lead roles in early 1980s films such as Hum Paanch and Wardaat. The later one was a sequel to his early film Surakshaa. His breakthrough role finally came in the musical drama `Disco Dancer` in 1982 which was a huge success. The next hit was Gunda and this film was followed by other musical films such as Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki in 1984 and Dance Dance in 1987. All these films showcased him as a talented dancer. He starred in many successful romantic and family drama films during this period such as Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye in1983, Pyaar Jhukta Nahin in1985, Swarg Se Sunder, and Pyaar Ka Mandir. These films remain his most commercially successful films to date. Some of the other hit films of Mithun`s career can be mentioned as Wanted, Boxer, Jagir, Jaal, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Commando, Waqt Ki Awaaz, Guru and Dushman. The actor ruled the industry for a decade. In the late 1990s he took a break from acting and relocated to Ooty where he set up some businesses. He made a comeback to the mainstream Hindi film industry in 2005 with the films like Elaan, Lucky: No Time for Love, Chingari, Guru, My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, Heroes and Golmaal 3. In recent years, he successfully worked in the movies like Bhole Shankar, Heroes, Satyameba Jayate, Kaalpurush, Ami Shubhash Bolchi, F.A.L.T.U, Kaanchi..., and Kick.

Mithun Chakraborty in Bengali Films
Mithun Chakraborty, Indian Movie Actor Mithun Chakraborty has even won recognition in Tollywood movies and has an extended hit list. Troyee, Gudia, Titli, Fatakesto series, and his latest Shukno Lanka made him a Tollywood sensation. He won his other two National Awards for the movie Tahader Katha in 1992 and Swami Vivekananda in 1995 for the portrayal of the character of Ramakrishna Paramhansa in the latter. Some of the commercial films, he acted are Ami Shubhash Bolchi, Yuddho, Chore Chore Mastuto Bhai,Chita, Bangali Babu, Troyee, and Kalankini Kankabati.

Mithun Chakraborty in Television Reality Shows
Mithun Chakraborty became famous in Bengali competitive dance reality show Dance Bangla Dance. Later, Mithun Chakraborty developed the concept of Dance India Dance, an Indian dance competition. Mithun Chakraborty is also the Grand Master for Dance India Dance Little Masters as well as the host of the reality show titled Bengali knowledge based reality show Dadagiri Unlimited on Zee Bangla channel. Mithun Chakraborty also hosted the Bengali version of Bigg Boss.

Awards and Honours of Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty has won two Filmfare awards. The Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for Agneepath (1990) and the Filmfare and Star Screen Award for Best Villain Award for Jallad (1995). In the year 2007 he won Lifetime Achievement Award and Role model of the year award. He has also won BFJA awards two times for Mrigaya (1977) and Tahader Katha (1995). The Andolok Award has also bestowed on him the Special editor Award (1999) Best actor Award in 2001 and in 2007.

Personal Life of Mithun Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty is married to Indian actress Yogita Bali and has four children, three sons and one daughter. The eldest son, Mimoh Chakraborty is an upcoming actor. The actor has a keen interest in sports and also takes special interest in football. He formed the `Bengal Football Academy`.
