Jeetendra, Bollywood Actor
Indian movie actor Jeetendra, popularly known as `Jumping Jack` is a superstar of 70`s of Hindi film industry.

Jeetendra, Bollywood ActorIndian movie actor Jeetendra was born on 7th April 1942 in Mumbai. His birth name was Ravi Kapoor. For his indisputable commercial appeal he was running successfully in the film industry for over 25 years. Jeetendra has done nearly 200 films as hero. He has worked almost all the famous heroin of that time as for example with Rekha he has done 24 films, with Hema Malini 12 films, with Sridevi 14 films while with Jaya Prada he worked in 21 films. In the late 1950s, Jeetendra was a science student who loved combing the back roads of Girgaum in south Mumbai with his friends. Occasionally, he would visit film studios to supply imitation jewellery his family dealt in. Filmmaker V. Shantaram gave the slim youngster a chance as Sandhya`s double in Navrang in the year of 1959 for the first time and Sehra in 1963 as well.

Jeetendra got his first major break in Shantaram`s `Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne` in the year 1964. His other hit was `Farz` in 1967 with which he came into limelight. This film went on to become a golden jubilee success. His white shoes and t-shirt were very famous and made a trademark for him. One of his famous songs `Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq` takes his popularity to its height. His vigorous dancing in Farz and subsequent films like Caravan and Humjoli won Jeetendra the epithet, Jumping Jack. Jeetendra, who had started life in a chawl, moved into a palatial house in Colaba in south Mumbai.

Himmatwala movieHis films consistently achieved commercial success, even though the critics panned a lot of them. Jeetendra was a non actor who knew the market pulse well. In South also he worked in many movies which were super hit and commercially successful. He worked in many of the South Indian remakes where he co-starred with Sridevi and Jayaprada. Some of these films were produced by Padmalaya Productions. His films were having some unique features like elaborate sequences with colorful clay pots, dozens of extras, electronic music by Bappi Lahiri, and lyrics by Indeewar that were full of expressions. He also did many of the action films like `Dil Aur Deewar`, `Jyoti Bane Jwala` and `Meri Awaaz Suno`. At this juncture, his dream project, Deedar-e-Yaar (1982), a wannabe mere Mehboob, rudely disturbed the star`s upward trajectory. This home production, costarring Tina Munim and Rishi Kapoor, was a box-office flop. Jeetendra worked in a trilogy with Gulzar as in `Parichay`, `Khushboo` and `Kinara`. Some of the landmark movies that has left a mark of Jeetendra are `Justice Chaudhry` in 1982, `Mawaali` in 1983, `Himmatwala` in 1983, and `Tohfa` in 1984. These were huge hits by the `Jumping Jack` despite low critical acclaim.

Jeetendra is married to Shobha Kapoor, and has a son Tusshar Kapoor, who is an actor, and a daughter, Ekta Kapoor, which is popularly known as queen of soaps in Television. She runs film production centre named as Balaji Telefilms. They make popular TV serials in Hindi, Tamil, and other languages. They have also produced five Bollywood films, two of which have Tusshar in the leading role. Jeetendra made a brief appearance in one of his daughter`s produced films `Kucch To Hai` in the year 2002 where he appeared along with his son Tusshar. He recently made an appearance in a popular TV serial `Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu`. He was also a judge of `Jhalak Dikhla Jaa`, an Indian dance competition on Sony Entertainment Television.

Indian movie actor Jeetendra never won an award, except for Lifetime Achievement Awards because of the tough completion in Bollywood during his era. In the year 1998 he achieved the Guest of Honour Award at the 18th Ujala Cinema Express Awards. In 2000 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in film personalities. In the year 2002 he Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, again in 2002 he won Lifetime Achievement Award at the Zee Gold Bollywood Movie Awards in New York. In 2004 he has won the `Legend of Indian Cinema` Award at Atlantic City, United States. In 2007 he won Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award.
