The Hubli Airport caters to the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad. Only Air Deccan (Bangalore, Mumbai) and Kingfisher Airlines (Bangalore, Mumbai) touchdown by the Hubli Airport. The airport authority recently received 'night flight certification' from DGA. Presently construction for night flights are being implemented on the runway. They also have a plan to expand the current airport into an all-weather one. A proposal worth Rs.195-crore have been submitted for the purpose of land acquisition for the airport. It is projected to acquire 650 acres (2.6 km²) of surrounding land-- 530 acres (2.1 km²) of 650 acres (2.6 km2) is agricultural land.
