The Indian movie Halla Bol is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi who is very popular for his research-oriented works.

The Indian movie `Halla Bol`is released on 11th January 2008. The lead actors in the film are Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan. The film has touched many unnoticed issues of the society like Jessica Lall Murder case, Right to Information Act and public participation in fighting corruption, and also the murder of Safdar Hashmi of `Jan Natya Manch` who was killed at the hands of political goons while performing a street play by the same name, Halla Bol in the year 1989. The director Rajkumar Santoshi is always known for his research oriented works and this film is not any exception.

Synopsis of film Halla Bol
Ashfaque played by Ajay Devgan is a small town boy who wants to be a film star in the Hindi film industry. Consequently he joins a street theater group. The theater group is run by a reformed dacoit named Sidhu played by Pankaj Kapur who uses street theater as a medium to bring about mass-awakening.

Ashfaque struggles to give a creative vent to the actor in him in order to realize his dreams. Ashfaque`s strong determination and hard work pays off and ultimately, he gets a break in films. He changes his original name in to a new screen name - Sameer Khan. As time passes, the roles start becoming better and he moves up the success ladder in a very short time. He becomes Sameer Khan the superstar - one who can enact any role with finesse, get under the skin of any and every character with ease and walk away with audience applause. This long journey from a street theatre actor to a big time hero can be covered by only a consummate artist like Ajay Devgan. The actor takes everything easily whether as the super hero enjoying the spoils of the success or as the tormented man fighting a battle between his stardom and his conscience.

Unfortunately, amidst all adulation and applause, Sameer gradually starts losing his own identity. He forgets his real self and assimilates all characteristics of the various roles essayed by him on screen. His entire system is taken over corruption, which makes him an alien to all his loved ones, including his wife Sneha played by Vidya Balan. A shocking incident at a party changes everything, rocking Sameer Khan`s lifestyle. He gets caught between his human self on one side and his corrupted superstar image on the other. Whether the conflict within him gives way to good sense and whether he is able to discard his corrupted image and emerge as a true life hero, becomes an integral part of this true life cinema. In the end he gains justice, his wife`s fighting for the sanctity of her marriage and the safety of her Embattled husband is praiseworthy. Vidya Balan does a sensitive and realistic portrayal of the trials and tribulations of a hero`s wife. Lastly all the villains are sentenced and the film has a happy ending
