 Ambala Air Force Base is situated at the urban Ambala area. The airport is used mainly for military and government purposes. The Ambala Air Force Base was constructed in 1948. It is also home to the No.5 and No.14 Squadrons of Jaguar aircraft. In both the 1965 and 1971 wars, the Indian Air Force base at Ambala was attacked by the Pakistani Air Force. Pakistanis struck Ambala in 1965. They had reportedly demolished some 25 Indian planes just after they had returned from their missions. In 1948, the Flying Instruction School, simply known as FIS was established here. But the School was resituated to Tambaram near Chennai in 1954.
