Mumbai Pubs & Bars

The metropolitan cites of India, have a wide range of pubs and bars cropping up, in every nook and corner. Since, Mumbai is the widely acclaimed and the most popular city in India, it comes as no surprise when we say that it has got many pubs, bars and discotheques around it. Mumbai is frequented with a lot of foreigners and hence, the requirement of proper bars, catering to the former`s needs might have been conceptualized. There are many bars and discotheques all around the northern part of Mumbai, which have the largest number of foreigners hanging around it.

Mumbai city has always led the nightlife scene in India and there are bars and clubs to suit every taste: jazz dens compete with salsa, tabla-dance fusions and funk. Mumbai`s alternative but decidedly yuppie crowd goes around in the glitzy or groovy clubs around Bandra barColaba and Juhu. Mumbai has an unusually easy-going attitude to alcohol, popping into a bar for a beer is very much accepted even at lunchtime. Many places in the town form the focus of the travellers` social scene, but if one wants to sample the pulse of the city`s nightlife, one can venture up to Bandra and Juhu.

There are also many pubs and discotheques in the suburban part of Mumbai, where dancing bars are also a popular culture (mostly in Chembur & Panvel). However, we also cannot forget the local bars, which have the not so rich and the lower strata of the society, being frequent visitors and enjoying their local (Deshi Daaru) liquors like Narangi and Tharra.

Let us now take a look at some of the famous hangout joints in Mumbai.

6 Degrees: This lounge bar is located in the lobby of The Hotel Leela Kempenski, a five-star hotel near the International Airport. The refined wood, comfy sofas and a glass facade bar lend a contemporary look to this place all designed by the renowned Carl Ettensperger. Visitors can order any liquor brand from here. Visitors surprisingly, can order a unique miniature glass distillery that even allows one to produce their own brandy from wine - from the comfort of one`s table! The must have drinks at this place are Vodka, lime; sugar and raspberries form the main ingredients of the 6 Degrees signature Cocktail. The Raspberry Caipiroschka, Snacky bites- Tapas style - compliment the drinks. Chicken Tikka, Malabar Prawns, satays and stuffed olives give the menu a global touch. Thus, it serves the choicest of wines, cocktails and mocktails.

Cafe Mondegar1. Cafe Mondegar: Mondy`s, as it is locally called, is a landmark in Mumbai. It`s a beer bar that only serves beer and a few coolers but that`s enough to keep it busy the whole week round. Always buzzing with activity and resonating with all-time hits from the jukebox, Mondegar has a unique ambience and most important, it is a day place. The walls are covered with the famous Mario Miranda`s cartoons - his spoofs on the city of Bombay. It is also a popular place for tourists to congregate to beat the heat with a few beers or just to meet other people, since they just serve beers in the range of alcohols. One can find the most number of foreigners around here.

This popular Bandra club turns from beer bar on slow weekdays to happening nightspot on weekends, where all kinds of alcohol and cocktails are served. Food mainly serves as an accompaniment to alcohol rather than as an haute cuisine experience. The best buy over here is the Blue Lagoon and Chilly Pork. Mostly from the 70`s and the 80`s, one can expect a range of retro and classic rock and the occasional current hits.
