Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu This is a popular Hindi soap opera produced by Balaji Telefilms that orbits around the lives of the fictitious Virani family. The serial currently airs on STAR Plus, Monday to Friday 10:30pm in India.

The serial also aired in Sri Lanka on Sirasa TV every weekday at 8.00pm. In this telecast, it is dubbed into Sinhala and the name of the drama is changed to `Maha Gedara` (meaning `big home` in Sinhalese). The serial is also aired in Afghanistan on Tolo TV every weekday in dubbed Dari version. In Pakistan it is aired on Star Plus (from India) on 10:00 pm.

Originally, the serial was titled Amma (Mother), but was later revised to the current title. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (KSBKBT) is a story that concentrates on the Virani household, and their trials and tribulations. The ideal Bahu Tulsi is one of the central characters in this serial, played by the popular actress Smriti Irani. The story is focused on Tulsi Virani, daughter of the family priest, who elopes with the family`s eldest son, Mihir. All the members except Govardhan Virani, the patriarch, and Amba Virani, the matriarch, are against it. Enraged, the daughters-in-law of the family, Savita (Apara Mehta), Daksha (Ketaki Dave) and Gayatri (Kamalika Guhathakurta) blame Tulsi (Smriti Irani) for inciting the family`s eldest son Mihir, marrying him and entering the robust household from a small- scale, middle-class family. However, due to respect and belief in God, Tulsi fights the injustice and battles her foes, in this case, her in- laws. Along the road, many new characters enter the scene and the episodes are spiced up with several affairs. The serial has witnessed a 20 year generation leap and yet managed to gain high degree of TRPs in its kitty. This was the timeleap during which the transition was made, at first gradually, from KSBKBT`s actors presenting the story whatever actors were both available and popular. No character from any generation was totally neglected. But the arrival of Ansh in the Virani clan, brought, more fame, name and not to forget, soaring Trps to the show and the channel both.

Ushering in with its generation next, the 7 new faces have held the new look of the show as they are introduced in the Virani family. KSBKBT has maintained a double digit TRP for more than over 5 years in succession setting a benchmark record in television viewer ship, and is surely having the viewers rejoice this time too with its new look and the fresh faces that are bought to the forefront.

Inspite all the controversy and the circus that this serial created around itself, it still continues to elevate by every growing day and scale the charts rapidly. The initial success of the soap and the subsequent continued patronage of the largely female audience of the show has been instrumental in changing the fortunes of the production house and in creating a successful genre of tearjerker family dramas, which still continues in the Indian TV industry.
