Dating back to prehistorical times, rings are a sleek, elegant piece jewellery, divided into few types.

Rings are the bands worn around a finger. Rings can be made of various materials. They were used since time immemorial to adorn oneself. Centuries ago rings were made of crude metal or wood. Today, one can avail rings in just about any material and numerous designs. Gold, silver and platinum are the most popular choice of material for rings. These days, one can find rings in plastic, brass, iron, aluminum, stainless steel, etc. There are various types of unambiguously designed rings available in the market. Rings cater to the tastes of men and women of all age groups. It is tremendously fashionable, considered to be the most sought after jewellery even today. Rings can be categorized depending upon the types of material used to make them.

Rings are made accordingly depending upon the occasion it will be worn. Materials vary in cases of engagement Rings; wedding Rings; casual Rings; spiritual Rings. In cases of the above-mentioned, rings mainly made of gold, silver and platinum are used. There are costume rings made of a variety of inexpensive materials. Metals like Stainless steel, white metal are popularly accepted metals for costume rings.

Metallic Rings Metallic Rings: Metallic rings are made from a horde of metals including, white metal, stainless steel etc. These metals are used for projecting different types of rings mainly for casual wear. Sometimes for the ring to look like a fine jewellery piece they are studded with stones, gemstones and cubic zirconium. For giving the ring a fine finish gold plating is often performed.

Plastic Rings: Plastic Rings are considered very fashionable. Plastic is used in rings to create floral or geometrical patterns that are quite charming. Plastic rings are available in a wide variety of colours. The magic of these rings lies in the fact that they can go well with any casual dress. Among the college going students plastic rings are the ighly sought after costume jewellery.

Wooden Rings: Wooden rings are basically available in conventional and tribal designs. In terms of designing and appearance these rings are quite distinct from other costume rings. The rings are in great demand in the international market including the USA, Australia etc.

Bone Rings: On a large scale bone fashion rings are devised in countries like India and China and in the western hemisphere, distributed to a large number of countries. In the international circuit mostly the engraved and carved rings are sold.

Glass Rings: Glass rings in an elaborate way are designed and merchandised in varying sizes. The rings are studded sometimes with classy beads and gems. They can range from etched rings to embossed ones. Decorated glass rings using bright colours and patterns are frequently made with white metal or stainless steel. Sometimes they are also adorned in a totally novel manner to render an exclusive look.

Stone Rings Stone Rings: Stone rings are fabricated in multitudinous designs and shapes. They are made from an immense variety of stones relatively low priced. However, these stones can also have a fine finish and high dazzle. They can give the ring a look of an expensive piece of jewellery. Cubic zirconium to a great extent is used to make stone rings.

Lac Rings: Lac is used to make some of the minutely precise, especially delicately designed rings. Lac rings are considered to be exceptionally fashionable and trendy. Lac rings are available in a variety of colour combinations to make a fashion statement for those who are fashion conscious and those who wear it.

Rings are often designed with a combination of different non precious materials for making captivating jewellery pieces. Cubic zirconium is the most widely used stone in different types of rings. In order to keep stress on the look of the jewellery piece, gems and stones are used to make it look a lot like fine jewellery; gold plating is often done. Painted glass rings, embroidered leather rings, stone studded plastic rings, beaded rings are very popular with youth. After earrings, rings are the most sought after piece of costume jewellery. In Hindi, rings are generally known as `Angoothi`.
