Ramakrishnan Mahasammelan Ashram was established by Swami Ashokananda, who had meditated on this hillock. Ashokananda selected a colossal pine tree and sat under it for his `sadhana` (practice deep meditation to be one with the Almighty). There is a small temple dedicated to Thakur Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and an adjacent guesthouse that add substance to the ashram. It sprawls across 7 acres of land where there is an apple orchard. The 800 fruit bearing trees of 17 varieties cash in revenue for the major share of expenses of the ashram.

Swami Ashokananda breathed his last in December 1971. His mortal remains were cremated in the premises of the Ashram, which is known as the `Tapo-bhumi` and `Karma-bhumi`. The Ramakrishnan Mahasammelan Ashram has become a pilgrim centre attracting people from far and wide, irrespective of caste and creed, rich and poor, literate and illiterate. Thousands from other parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, and even from overseas take part in Sri Ramakrishna and Maa Sharada Jayantis celebrated here. Nagdandi is easily accessible by road from Acchabal, 8km from Anantnag.
