Necklace is not only considered as a jewellery but also an elegant piece at that, which carries values of tradition.

India, from ancient times has been known as the `gem bearing` country. For every part of the body, there are ornaments. Necklace is considered as the most elegant piece of jewellery. It is an accessory or jewellery, which is worn around the neck. Necklaces are often moulded from metal chains, sometimes it is attached to a locket or a pendant. Apart from metals, necklaces can also be fabricated with cloth, and they sometimes incorporate rocks (particularly gems), wood, and/or shells.

The existence of necklaces can be found scattered throughout history. It was worn by both men and women. Women in the erstwhile era, wore necklaces to draw attraction to the cleavage region. In India there are a variety of designs and styles available for necklaces. They are so skillfully ornamented that it becomes one`s trousseau. In India traditional values and sentiments related to jewellery is very significant in nature. In certain cases, jewellery is passed on from generation to generation. The main purpose of this kind of hereditary transformation is to preserve the family tradition, wealth, values, sentiments, warmth as well as love. It also metamorphoses the bond of a family. Thus it can be said that the necklace is a jewellery, which apart from adorning the slender neck of a woman, also passes the tradition in Indian context. The necklace thus accentuates the daintiness and beauty of a woman.

These simple necklaces can add additional grace to even simple outfits. A simple thin chin necklace is typically worn with a pendant in order to make it look elegant. These pendants can either be gemstones, solid gold or silver shapes like stars, moon, heart, etc. or even alphabet pendants. Necklaces are normally made of gold or silver.
