Manali, Himachal Pradesh, popularly called Switzerland of India, is a tourist haven offering the splendor of snow clapped ranges, meandering streams and lush green tracts. Stretching almost forty kilometers from Kulu to the northern side, Manali, Himachal Pradesh is located at the valley end on NH, which ultimately leads one to Leh. Truly Manali, Himachal Pradesh casts a magic spell to its visitors. The magnanimous Himalaya ranges, river Beas run across the town one side and also there are fertile valleys and vegetation like deodar and pine trees, small fields and fruit orchards on another side. Knowing strategic location of Manali, Himachal Pradesh is a must in order to explore various wonders of this town. It is placed approximately at 32.16° N 77.10° E. It also rises approximately to a height of 2625 meters or 8612 feet above the mean sea level.

Etymologically, Manali, Himachal Pradesh got its name from Manavalaya, which means the abode of Manu. As per the myth, Manu is the heavenly lawmaker and also the sole survivor of Mahajal Pralay - the Great deluge. He is the father of the mankind. The small town was the starting point of primitive trade route to Ladakh and then stretches further to the `Karakoram Pass on to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin`.
