Lekir monastery or Klu-Kkhjil was established by Lama Dhwang Chosje in the 14th century, who was a master of meditation art. The site of the Lekir monastery was demarcated by the bodies of two great-spent spirits. Therefore, the name came to be widely known as `Lekir`. Ihawang Lodos Sangphu, the disciple of Khasdubje, was the holy man responsible for the prosperity of the monastery. It belongs to the Gaylukpa School of Buddhism. The Lekir festival is held every year in the month of December, from 17th to 19th of the month.
