India has always been the country of rich cultural heritage. The country is termed the `gem bearing` country. Without the unadulterated combination of jewellery any sort of attire seems incomplete. Jewellery not only adds beauty, it also enhances the graceful look. For over 5,000 years jewellery in India has been an unbroken tradition. Before the discovery of metals, ancient men and women used to embellish themselves with wooden ornaments and other materials that were available naturally. With time, jewellery was refined in touch, design and style. In India, one can find ornaments for each and every part of the body. Such variety bears testimony to the fantabulous skills of the jewellers from India. In order to show the expertise and excellence in the art of jewellery making, Indian jewellers have also designed ornaments for elephants and gods.

Jewellery was the symbol of power, richness and class for the prehistoric and historic rulers. So from there it has been conceived that the craft of jewellery was given a `royal patronage` because in India jewellery is considered to be much more than just a tool of aesthetic appeal. Jewellery in India is believed to be the symbol of divine copiousness and material blessings. The Indian jewellery has fascinated the whole wide world across time and space. Since prehistoric times jewellery has been fashioned in different mediums like country-seeds, feathers, leaves, berries, fruits, flowers, animal bones, claws and teeth. The ruins of Mohenjodaro and other sites of the Indus Valley civilization bear evidence to this dexterity.

Today the concept of jewellery is enriched with the experimentations in it. Markets these days are flooded with jewellery that is the most coveted for the current generation. It looks very elegant, stylish as well as contemporary that suits the apparels of youngsters. Side by side traditional Indian jewellery sells like hot cakes. In India, almost every household has good collection of traditional jewellery. People reserve those jewellery for special occasions like marriages, birthdays, festivals, etc. Some traditional jewelleries to name a few:

Nose Rings: During the 16th Century, India adopted the practice of nose rings. The practice took place in India with the arrivals of the Mughals.

Hoop earrings Earring: The history of earrings originated as a tradition since ancient times. Today, earrings come in different varieties like Stud earrings, Hoop earrings, Dangle earrings or `jhumka`, slave earring, Clip-on earrings, ear cuff, Magnetic earrings and Stick-on earrings.

Necklace: Necklace is considered as the most elegant piece of jewellery. It is an accessory or jewellery that is worn around the neck. Indian necklace carries a lot of conventional and sentimental value inhered in it. Necklace can be of different types like, Beaded silver Necklace; Bead Costume jewellery Necklace; designer long necklace; Tribal necklace; stone beaded necklace; beaded necklace; bone necklace; Fashion necklace; Horn Necklace; Funky necklace; Bone choker with stone necklace, pearl necklace, gold necklace; lacquer necklace; jute necklaces; pearl gold necklace; kundan sets; white metal necklace.

Mangalsutra: Mangalsutra is regarded as `a sacred thread of love and goodwill worn by married women as a symbol of their marriage`. It is tied up by the groom around the neck of the bride.

Armlet: In India, armlets are popularly known as Baju Bandh. Baju Bandhs are the traditional forms of jewellery that is even today considered extremely trendy. The armlets are usually made in shapes of creepers, snakes, and crocodiles with crude metal.

Bangles: Bangles are made circular in shape. Bangles are mainly worn by women. They can be categorised into many types like, Wooden Bangles, Glass bangles, Fashion jewellery Bangles, Metal Bangles, stone bangles, Stainless steel bangles, Sterling silver bangles, White metal bangles, plastic bangles, Lac bangles, Beaded Bangles etc.

Bone Bracelets Bracelets: Bracelets are ideal for any occasion or daily wear. It is a very popular piece of jewellery usually worn around the wrist. Bracelets can be differentiated in various types like, Leather Bracelets, Metal Bracelets, Lac Bracelets, Glass Bracelets, Plastic bracelets, Shell bracelets, Wooden bracelets, Bone Bracelets, Stone bracelets, Teracotta bracelets, Jute Bracelets, Ivory Bracelets.

Pendant: Pendant is a hanging object or piece of jewellery. There are varying shapes and sizes available for it. Amongst Indians the ones like Zodiac sign pendants, numerology pendants, Rudraksh pendants, birthstone pendants, etc. are the most sought after. Pendants can be divided into Stainless steel pendants, Sterling silver pendants, wooden pendants, Shell Pendants, Lac pendants, Glass pendants, Leather pendants, Bone Pendants, Plastic pendants, and Ivory Pendants.

Rings: Rings were used for a long period of time to adorn oneself. Centuries age rings were made of crude metal or wood. Today, one can avail rings in just about any material and design. There are many types of Rings like, Stainless steel, white metal, Metallic Rings, Plastic Rings, Wooden Rings, Bone Rings, Glass Rings, Stone Rings, and Lac Rings.

Anklet: According to Indian custom, anklets can only be worn by unmarried girls. The anklets have small bells that while walking emit a sweet noise. Depending upon the material used to make anklets, they can be categorised as: Sterling Silver Anklet, Shells Anklet, Plastic Anklet, Wooden Anklet, Stone Anklet, Bone Anklet, Glass Anklet, Jute Anklet, Ivory Anklet.
