Plot:
Indian TV serial `Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann` is a drama serial aired on Zee TV. This is the story of a Gujarati family that depicts the mindset of most of the middle and upper middle class families of the society. It shows the psychology of a group of people who still believe that society can be run and governed by men only. Suryakant Garodia played by Yatin Karyekar is one of these groups. He is a respected businessman of the city. His family is into business for past four generations and they make traditional Gujarati `bandhanis` and because of this reason he is one of the most respected and richest individuals of the area. For him his work is not just a business but it`s a matter of pride. After the birth of three daughters when his wife is pregnant for the fourth time, Suryakant becomes tensed about his next generation. One question arises in his mind that who will maintain his business and his family. This time Suryakant is very hopeful of having a son. In fact, his family pandit has predicted that this time there are no chances of anything going wrong. Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann deals with the status of female child in society and how every family wants a boy to continue the family name. This is very painful that even in this modern age people think of something nonsense like this. Finally the day comes. It`s Diwali. All are hoping that this Diwali will mark the entry of the heir to their family. Suryakant`s mother, too, is very hopeful and pressure is building up on Savitri. However, finally as Savitri gives birth to a baby girl, all dreams, expectations and hopes are shattered for one more time. Savitri feels helpless with her three daughters Saraswati (Kshitee Jog), Gauri (Neetha Shetty), Durga (Smriti Mohan) and now Laxmi (Twinkle Bajpai). The newly born baby girl is not welcomed by anyone in the family except her mother and sisters. Things become more complicated when doctors declare that because of some biological problems Savitri will never be able to conceive in future. Their family pandit suggests that Suryakant has a `putr-yog` and can be blessed with it but for that some decision should be made. Suryakant is determined of having a son in life so he takes a drastic decision and one fine morning come home with a girl named Menka. Savitri remains shocked but as Suryakant is supported by his mother and sisters Savitri has to accept Menka in her life. She has to leave her room also because of Suryakant`s second wife. Menka, after few days gets pregnant and on the next Diwali, much to the family`s delight, delivers a son, Yuvraj(Rohit Raj). Suryakant`s life changes and now he is the happiest man on the earth. Menka becomes dominant in the house and Savitri and her daughters are pulled down. Suryakant & his family, least bothered about the existence of his first wife and four daughters, is happy in their new world with Menka and Yuvi. It`s in these circumstances that the children grow up under the same roof… a brother whose every wish becomes the command at home & his four elder sisters, whose every wish is sidelined & sacrificed. This scenario is prevalent in many parts of our country. In Gadoria family there is one child Lakshmi who always oppose against any injustice. This is a serial for social awakening and also it tries to lighten some hidden parts of the society which is often under mention.
