 Bengal has always been in the limelight for having a rich tradition of literary works. It seems to be virtually in the blood of the Bengalis to have a literary bend of mind. Out of this tradition various notables launched a number of the newspapers during India`s struggle for independence as well as in the post independence period. Some of the Bengali newspapers still continuing to dominate the scenario are,
Anandabazar Patrika is published from Kolkata and Siliguri and has its origin the independence period by the notable freedom fighter Prafulla Chandra Sarkar.

Bartaman Patrika Aajkal is a Bengali daily published from Kolkata. It was launched in 1981.

Bartaman Patrika is a leading Bengali newspaper published from Kolkata, siliguri, Burdwan, Malda and Midnapore.

Sangabad Pratidin was the first Bengali newspaper to start an online edition and is published from Kolkata.

Uttar Banga Sambad is Bengali language broadsheet published from Siliguri, Cooch Behar and Malda.

Ganashakti is the official representative of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of the West Bengal state committee in print media. It first appeared in the year 1967.
