The Indian movie, `Lamhe` is directed by Yash Chopra. The film received critical acclamation worldwide. It also did good business in UK but unfortunately could not do well in Indian box office. It is also the personal choice of Yash Chopra himself. It was not so popular in India still it bagged the best film fare award in the year of 1992. The Outlook magazine listed it as the All-Time Great Indian films.

Plot:
The Indian movie `Lamhe` is a Bollywood movie with good music and excellent script by Honey Irani. The visuals compliment the music and one is carried away to the magical world of the deserts when Ila Arun sings "Mare hivade me legaye re kataar re…" The Indian movie `Lamhe` is about moments in Viren`s (Anil Kapoor) life. Lamhe deals with moments of love, ecstasy, sorrow and realization. Viren, who lives in London, comes to Rajasthan with his governess or Dai Jaa played by Waheeda Rehman. There he meets the beautiful Pallavi played by Sridevi and he immediately falls in love with her. Being a shy person is unable to confess his love for her. By the time Viren gathers courage to tell her about his love, he comes to know that Pallavi is in love with Sidharth. He realizes this when due to a property dispute and a court case Pallavi`s father dies of a heart attack and Viren comes to console her. But instead of coming to Viren, Pallavi goes straight to Sidhharth. Viren is shattered but he fulfill Pallavi`s father`s dying wish and arranges Pallavi`s wedding with a heavy heart. He leaves Pallavi with Sidhharth and retreats to London without letting Pallavi know of his true emotions.

Meanwhile Pallavi and Siddharth live happily. Pallavi gives birth to a baby girl. But their happiness does not last long. One year after their marriage both of them died in an accident. Viren flies down to Indian and decides to take care of the child. The baby girl is named Pooja and is kept in the care of Dai Jaa i.e. Waheeda Rahman. A few years later Viren comes from London. That time he meets Pooja for the first time. He is shocked as Pooja looks exactly like her mother, Pallavi. Both the roles were palyed by Sridevi. Eventually Viren, Dai Jaa and Pooja come to London. Later it is revelaed to all that Pooja is in love with Viren. However Viren was still in love with Pallavi. Prem, played by Anupam Kher, is Viren`s friend who knows that Viren`s heart still yearns for Pallavi. Viren is still trying to engage himself in other works but still he cannot forget Pallavi. In London a girl named Anita, who works with Viren, is deeply in love with him but Viren never looks at her. Anita knows about Viren`s love for Pallavi. She constantly tries to win his attention. Pooja and Dai jaa both come to London. Anita sees Pooja for the first time and instantly gets the feel that she looks exactly like her mother. She becomes upset because of the thought that Viren will eventually start loving Pooja.

Over a period of time Pooja becomes possessive about Viren so Anita tries to show the truth and make her understand that she is wrong. Pooja retorts back and says that if she is not related to Viren, Anita is also not related to him either. Anita becomes frustrated. She blasts out at Viren for his feelings for Pooja. Pooja finds a sketch that Viren has made but it is of her mother. She completely misunderstands and considers it her portrait. She faces him and asks about the truth. Viren feels irritated and rebuffs her saying he had loved her mom and not her. Pooja becomes shattered and decides to return to India. Viren decides to marry Anita. Pooja also decides to get married too but there is one condition that Viren marries Anita first.

At the end Lamhe shows a broken hearted Pooja narrating a folk tale in a village. All of a sudden she notices Viren in the audience. She becomes exited and very happy. Very soon it is revealed that none of them got married because both realize that they cannot live without each other. So they get married and lived happily ever after. This is a signature movie by Yash Chopra with very good screenplay.

There are brilliant actors acted in this Indian Movie `Lamhe`. Double role of Pallavi and Pooja is played by Sridevi, Anil Kapoor played the role of Viren. Some other remarkable roles are played by Anupam Kher, Waheeda Rehman, Deepak Malhotra and Dippy Sagoo. The director and producer of this movie is Yash Chopra. It is written by Honey Irani while the dialogues were by Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza. The famous music is given by Shivshankar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia while lyrics are by Anand Bakshi. The cinematography is done by Manmohan Singh.

Awards:
The Indian movie `Lamhe` got many awards in 1992 film fare awards. It won the best actress, best comedian, best movie, best screenplay and best dialogues. Some of the other nominations include best director, best actor and best actress in a supporting role. Sridevi won the International Academy`s Best Actress Award and the Sunday Observer Best Actress Award for the film. Costume designer Neeta Lulla won the National Award for Sridevi`s incredible costumes.
