Deodhar Trophy

The Deodhar Trophy is the 50 over one day domestic tournament, which is equivalent to the Ranji Trophy. The Deodhar Trophy is named after late Professor D.B.Deodhar who was the grand old man of Indian Cricket. The Deodhar Trophy is played among the five zonal teams on the league basis. The five zonal teams are- North, South, East, West and Central Zone.

The Deodhar Trophy tournament was launched in the 1973-74 season. The South Zone annexed the title in the inaugurating tournament. The first Deodhar Trophy match was played between South Zone and East Zone where South Zone won by 6 wickets. This was the first recorded One-Day match in the country.

Deodhar TrophyIn Deodhar Trophy Tournament there is no arrangement for the round robin stage or the final. The team that earns the highest point is declared the winner. The North Zone is the highest time winner, which won the competition for eleven times.

In Deodhar Trophy the points are distributed in the following fashion. The winning team gets 4 points and the lost outright team gets 2 points. If the match ends with no results then both of the team gets 2 points each. The bonus point for the match is one point, while the bonus conceded one point is deducted.
