Ayurvedic massage, also known, as abhanga is a procedure that ameliorates many disease conditions.

Ayurveda with its rich history has been used as one of the most sought after alternative therapy. In ayurveda, message indeed plays a great part in increasing blood circulation. Ayurvedic massage is a procedure that ameliorates many disease conditions. It increases blood circulation and thus helps in curing diseases.

Headache: Headache is the most common problem that is caused by stress, anxiety or tension. Massage on forehead and scalp with ayurvedic oils helps to cure the headache.

Hemiplegia: The hemiplegia or Pakshaghata requires massage in anuloma direction i.e. direction opposite to the body hairs. The massage should not be reversed in any case.

Joint Pain: Ayurvedic massage helps to ameliorate joint pain but the massage cannot be applied if there is any redness or swelling. There are many special types of oil that are used in the joint pain massage.

Sciatica: It occurs due to dislocation of disc in the lumber region. Special medicated oils like vishagarbha oils and Prasarani oils are used for the massaging purpose and after massaging, fomentation is done.

Varicose Veins: Varicose Veins are twisted or painful veins of legs. Massaging with special oils can treat it but care should be taken so that no pressure is exerted while massaging.

Obesity : Kapha Dosha is the main reason for obesity. There is a dry massage therapy in Ayurveda, which helps to reduce body fat and overweight.

Polio: A special type of ayurvedic therapy is applied to cure polio called Kerala therapy that involves different types of therapies named as njvarakizzhi, elakizzhi, pizichhil and mamsakizzhi.
