The Rameshwaram Beach in Tamil Nadu is a serene beach with shallow waters. This makes the beach an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is surrounded by Palk Strait and the Gulf of Mannar and it is a popular pilgrimage destination for both Saivaites and Vaishnavaites because it was here that Lord Rama thanked Lord Shiva.
The sea at Rameshwaram beach has diverse species of marine life, which ranges from life-algae, starfish, sea cucumber, crabs, sponges and the sea cow. Near the beach there is a residential locale of the same name where one can find the Ramanathaswamy Temple, which is one of the most important temples in south India.
