Nestled in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, state of India, Nangavalli is the name of a panchayat town

Numerous towns and cities have flourished in every hook and corner of Indian continent. The state of Tamil Nadu is not an exception. One such significant place is Nangavalli . It is an example of a panchayat town lying in the Salem district of the state of the country. Nangavalli lies in the southeastern part of Mettur of the same district.

For identifying a town it is imperative that one should know its exact geographical location. It lies approximately at 11.75° N 77.88° E. It has an average height of 385 meters or 1263 feet.

Down the years a handful of demographers have been working diligently so that they could successfully conduct surveys and research works in Nangavalli. After extensive surveying they prepared reports on the basis of the demographical facts and findings that they have gathered so far from Nangavalli. Most prominent is the Census report of a particular year. Being published in the year 2001, it throws light on certain aspects like literacy rate, population statues of Nangavalli. According to this report, Nangavalli has showed a total population counting of 9610. To be specific, male populace constitutes 52 %, while the population of females constitutes 48 % only. In Nangavalli, 12 % of the population constitutes of children who are below six years of age.

Literacy rate acts as vital information about Nangavalli. From this report it is noted that Nangavalli`s average literacy rate constitutes 59 %, which is even lower than 59.5 %, India`s average literacy rate. In Nangavalli males are quite erudite. Its literacy rate constitutes 67 %. However rate of female literacy is 49 % only.

Important places also form its boundaries. Nerinjipettai encircles it in the western part, Mecheri lies in the northern part. Also in the southern and eastern parts Jalakandapuram and Taramangalam are found.

Primary attraction of Nerinjipettai is Mettur Dam which is situated in the near by.

To facilitate accessibility, Nangavalli is well connected via airports and railways. Salem Airport is located at a distance of almost 19 km east. Mettur Dam Railway Station lies in vicinity.

From the perspective of the whole district few lines can be further added. Being an integral part of the district it is obvious that people of Nangavalli too follows the same trend and tradition. To sustain their livelihood many of them have adapted to the practice of cultivation. Crops that are produced in Nangavalli are millets, cereals, rice, pulses, sugarcane (gur), groundnut, cotton and many more. Other professions like animal husbandry, fisheries are quite prevalent in this district.
