Nahargarh is the first of 3 forts, which has been constructed by famous Maharaja Jai Sawai Singh of Jaipur. The Fort lies at the pinnacle of rocky tip of the Aravali Mountains thus offering a stunning view of Jaipur city. This fort conserves the security of Amer.
Etymologically, the word "Nahargarh" signifies "the Abode of Tigers", which also is popular as the Tiger Fort. In the year 1734 Nahargarh has been built. Later in the nineteenth century the rulers have incorporated things in Jaigarh fort. The exact location is six kms North of the city . It is located just below Jaigarh Fort of Jaipur.
A legend is popular that centers on this Nahargarh fort. As per this legend, the spirit of a prince haunted this fort, which was under construction. In order to throw off this spirit a tantrik has been called forth. Thus the ghost promised of leaving the fort on condition that this fort would be named after him. In this way the fort was called Nahargarh Fort.
A multitude of building is found in the Nahargarh fort. Amongst them Madhavendra Bhawan is important. It was built by Sawai Ram Singh II. There are series of rooms interconnecting each other with multicolored `corridors` and `hallways`. All the members of the regal family found it to be ideal for picnicking.
