The ISKCON temple is located at Vrindavan, UttarPradesh. The city is well linked with other parts of India and abroad through rail, road and air. The nearest airport is situated at Kheria, Agra. The nearest rail junction is at Mathura. Vrindavan is situated 15km from Mathura and 145 kms from Delhi.
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada established the foundation in the year 1966 and the leader of the movement that is officially known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The society turned into a worldwide confederation of six thousand temple devotees and hundred and ninety thousand congregational devotees. It has more than three hundred and fifty centers, sixty rural communities, fifty schools and sixty restaurants situated all over the world. The main aim of the society is to work for the well being of the society by teaching the science of Krishna consciousness following the teaching of Bhagavad-Gita and other ancient Vedic scriptures of India.
The ashram is well equipped with modern facilities of life. It has a reading room, a combination of reference library and a study having all of the Srila Prabhupada`s books, many other books and magazines, VIHE course books as well a computer with the folio. The library also contains VIHE courses recorded in tapes and tape recorders and headphones. More than fifty courses are available in these tapes. There is a huge collection of many course books of past and present time.
Vrindavan Institute of Higher Education was founded in the year 1987. The institute promotes Krishna Consciousness culture to the larger section of the society as well as wants to make the future generation aware of the movement. The Educational Institute teaches Vedic literatures, especially those translated by Srila Prabhupada. It was established after the death of Srila Prabhupada to fulfill his desire of having an Institute in Vrindavan that would train people in the Krishna consciousness movement and give them a thorough idea of the subject so that in future they can preach the world about the Krishna consciousness movement and spirituality.
The Institute offers various courses throughout the year that provides an atmosphere, which contributes to the realization of Supreme Being, Lord Krishna. The course mainly offers the study of the main book-Bhagavad Gita translated by Srila Prabhupada. It also offers the perfect environment to those who want to be involved in serious study of philosophy of Srila Prabhupada and Krishna consciousness.
Among the various courses offered in ISKCON at Vrindavan, the Bhakti Sastri is most popular ad important. It includes study of all the eighteen chapters of Bhagavad Gita. Several other short term courses also regularly takes place. Teachers are selected carefully from different parts of world. The Institute of ISKCON thus provides the facilities to the students to learn about Krishna consciousness and detailed account of Vaishnava religion, ideology and culture in the serene and divine atmosphere of Vrindavan.
