Balighai Beach in Orissa is an ideal picnic spot and is situated at a distance of eight kilometers from Puri.

Balighai beach is a renowned as a picnic spot, situated near a holy city of Orissa. The Balighai beach is situated at a distance of eight kilometers from Puri and is a popular picnic spot. The Baliharina deer lives in the region and can be seen moving on the beach. The Balighai beach has casuarinas trees on the fringes of the beach and is caressed by the scenic waves of Bay of Bengal. This beach is well placed between river Nuanai and Bay of Bengal. The beach is well known for its serene environment and natural beauty. Balighai Beach is situated away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and offers a welcome relief for tourists and travelers.

The best time to visit this spot is during October and June. It is clean and isolated, and offers magnificent views of sunset and sunrise. All these special features make Balighai Beach an ideal destination for honeymooners and also for picnic goers. The picturesque beach and the serene atmosphere allows people to relax have fun. The place is inhibited by shy Baliharina deer, the row of casuarine tree, desolate ocean coast and the sea turtle are the major attraction for people here. The Sea Turtle Research Centre is another important attraction of this beach. There are usual beach activities that people can indulge into like; sunbathing, swimming and other types of water sports. Spending some time on the beach with near and dear ones can be a wonderful and humbling experience. A visit to the Balighai beach can certainly be an unforgettable experience.

The place offers guesthouse, resorts and hotels which are safe enough for tourists. These hotels come at various costs. Chaurasi is an important tourist site near Balighai beach and is dedicated to Amareshras, Laxminarayanan and Barahi. The Barahi is a deity that dates back to 9th century AD and is presently worshiped according to tantrik practices. She happens to be the face of boar, holding a cup in one hand and a fish in the other. This shrine is 14 kms from Kakatpur on the way to Konark at Chaurasi.
