There used to be a tank named `tarka teertha` (spelt as tirtha) near the temple, which is available in parts till now, and is called `Takala`. People believe that the idol was self-created. It has four hands and is made of black stone.

The temple is turned at such an angle, that it faces Mahalakshmi Mandir. She is also called `Trayamali`. In every Asadha, the religious festival of pouring water on the staircase of the mandir, is celebrated as a gala occasion. There is also a Yama Mandir.
