Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta is being considered not only as a singer, but also a `Lady with an extended heart`.


Swagatalakshmi DasguptaThe name of Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta became an ineluctable name in the ephemeral world of Rabindra sangeet since her induction into the field. She has obtained her Master Degree in music from Rabindra Bharati University. She has received her introductory training in Classical music under her father Shri Pabitra Dasgupta. Later on she received her training in Rabindra Sangeet from renowned artist Smt. Maya Sen. Acknowledging her talent she has been absorbed as the `A` grade artist by all India Radio and Doordarshan.

In the year 1985, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta won the All India Singing Talent Contest. In the following year, she has again won the first prize in Rabindra Sangeet and Bhajan in All India Radio Music Competition (Akashbani) and Atul Prasadee both in West Bengal Rajya Music Competition. During the year 1989-90, she was specially invited by the Tagoreans, London to perform in London and Belgium. It was an honor indeed for a aspiring performing artist like Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta then. in different fields of Music, like, Sanskrit hymn(musicised by Herself),south indian and English, scottish & Irish original songs of the transcreated songs of Tagore, she has left her remarkable impression apart from Rabindrasangeets. This effort of her has received rave acclaimation throughout. Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta has released two albums of her "Sagarparer Haoyay" in the year 1996 and "Dakhin Haoya" in the year 1999, which were super hit.

As a solo performer, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta has released 17 Cassettes. Under the banner of established music record company HMV, she has also released 14 other cassettes and 4 CDs. She has also released 23 albums completely dedicated to Rabindrasangeet. These albums are single albums of her. Apart from a singer she has also carved a niche for herself as a prominent music-composer and with this new identity of her, she has released 10 albums on her self-composed Modern songs. Them reputed music company HMV has absorbed her as their permanent artist.

This eminent performing artist as recognition to her talent has received many accolades throughout her professional career like, Promothesh barua Award for best female performance in the year 1995, Anandolok Award as best Female Playback Singer in the year 1998, 2002, 2003, Dishari (Film Journalist Award) for best female playback for the year 1998-99, Uttam Kumar Award for best Rabindra Sangeet Cassette ("Esechho Prem") in the year1997, Sailajaranjan Award in the year 1998 and Cha-Cha-Cha Award for spectacular achievement in music for the decade 1990-99. For her salient contribution in Indian Music she has been conferred the Millennium Kalakar Award. "CHENA FAGUN", her album of Rabindrasangeets released in 2004, that fetched the award the "Best album of Rabindrasangeets"(among Female artistes). In the film Ding-Dong, directed by Shri Chinmoy Roy, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta was the Music Director, Lyricist and singer.

In the year 2003, on an invitation, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta has participated in the Banga Sanskriti Sammelan held in America (USA). In the same year, she was also invited by the Tagoreans in the UK. In the year April 2004, she was invited in Canada by Canadian Bango Sammelan that was organized by Bengali Association of Canada. Outside India apart from Rabindrasangeet, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta has performed different types of Bhajans and Devotional Songsat many Temples of Gujrati & South Indian Temples. Today she has been counted as a gemstone in the unlimited sky of Rabindrasangeets.

Through her performances she has always magnetized her audiences. She unlike other Rabindrasangeet singer in a consecrated manner playing herself only a keyboard as the instrument while rendering. It has been said that, `Her completely devoted rendering in the pin-drop silence & tranquility of the hall and it goes on ringing in the mind even after a long time,while in leisure`. This can be attributed as the mystry behind her renown. Today the world of rabindra sangeet has been considered as imcomplete without Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta. Apart from being an accomplished artists she has also teched at the Music department of Rabindra Bharati University as a lecturer.

Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta Dream Project Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta in a very recent time has lauched her Dream Project "Ramayana". The "Ramayana" was performed by "ASHOKERENU" (remembering Late Shri Ashoke Sengupta, an eminent recitation artist, her friend and well-wisher), the group of Her numerous students. The drama comprised of 40 Rabindrasangeets (some were partly used, some were entirely),along with the commentary (written by Swagata Herself) by Swagata and Arjun Chakraborty (famous film Actor). This Musical drama she has presented at Rabindra Sadan for two times. On the birthday of ASHOKERENU on 7th July,2005 for the first time. She has also bagged the honor of recording the entire "Geetabitan" of Rabindranath Tagore. The album contains more or less 2212 songs in a single album. With the name of "Ekla Geetabitan" in the year 2006 the album was released. Tanpura and Tabla were the only musical instruments used in the album.

This album took near about 7 months to complete the recording. It has also created a record of recording 118 songs on a day and that was made during her recording. Some albums to her credit are,
