Gurdas Mann is a Punjabi singer, actor, whose attempt for Punjabi regional Bhagra spreaded its fragrance to the world.

Gurdas Maan Gurdas Maan is a famous Punjabi singer, choreographer, and songwriter. He has also entered in the world of acting. This famous Punjabi singer was born on 5the January in the year 1952 in Giddarbaha, Muktsar District, Punjab, India. Gurdas Maan rose to the national fame during the year 1980 with the song "Dil Da Mamala Hai". Since then he has never looked back and released over 27 albums and has written over 200 songs.

Early Life of Gurdas Maan
Gurdas Maan was born to a family of Sikh Maan Jat. He was enrolled into a educational institute of Patiala after finishing his education in Malout. But since the childhood he was very much enthusiastic with sports, which ultimately led him to the National Institute of Sports in the city. Afterwards Gurdas Maan obtained a Masters Degree in Physical Education from there. Gurdas Maan His days in Patiala also glorified with his participation in the youth festivals that were organized by various universities and the awards that he fetched from there for his outstanding participations in the field of acting and singing. At the National Championship, Gurdas Maan took part in many athletic events from where he has won many medals as recognition of his impression in the field. He has also won a Bronze medal at the Championship and a black belt in judo.

Career of Gurdas Maan
Today he has been counted amongst the best possible Punjabi singers and he has been looked as `Icon of Punjab`. This astonishing Punjabi Singer rose to fame with a song written solely by him for a stage plays. Acknowledging the potentiality of the song, a producer of a Jalandhar TV station made him agreed to his tune to perform this song on television. On the eve of New Year in the year 1980, the programme was aired. This programme captured the attention of audiences all over the nation and he became a national icon. The big music recording house HMV signed him to record the song with them. In the later year 1981, HMV released the debut album of Gurdas Mann with that hit song "Dil Da Mamala Hai".

When Gurdas Mann geared up his career as a solo artist, Indian music industry was then dominated by the duet artists. Gurdas Mann never tried to link up with any artist. As a solo performer from the day of his debut, he has always performed to his potential. For the Doordarshan Network in Delhi he also wrote and directed TV programs such as POP Time from his early times. Today he has been credited for the promotion of Bhangra Music from `a regional level mostly in the Punjab to gain international recognition`. His next hit song "Apna Punjab" superseded all his earlier hits. Them song was very much popular and received well acclamation throughout. "Apna Punjab" won Best Song and Best Album and Gurdas himself won Best International Artist at the Asian Pop and Media Awards held in Birmingham in the year 1998. The song was originally composed by an NRI who resides at Toronto, namely Makhan Brar. During a programme out there, on his request Gurdas Mann performed the song on the spot.

Acting Talent of Gurdas Maan
Apart from music albums and stage performances, Gurdas Mann has also left his impression in the field of Films. In the hit film "Shaheed Udham Singh", he was featured `as a Sikh man with no prejudices based on religion, caste or creed`. Many fans of his and friends have agreed on the issue that he has acted in the film as if he was in his real life. Laxmikant Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Anu Malik, Nadeem Sharvan, Amar Haidipur, Charanjeet Ahuja, and Jaswant Bhanyra are the music directors with whom Gurdas Mann has worked in his career. In the epic "Des Hoyaa Pardes" along with famous filmstar Juhi Chawla he has starred. It was `an emotive film illustrating the tragedies faced by the people of Punjab in the 1980s`. Gurdas Mann with perfect emotion has playacted the role of a son of a well-respected Jatt (farmer) Gurdev Singh Somal who has fall in love with a high ranking police officer`s daughter. This movie was completely based on real facts.

Movie Veer-Zaara Movie Veer-Zaara Gurdas Mann apart from Punjabi can also speak Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Haryanvi and Rajasthani fluently. He has also performed as an actor in Punjabi, Hindi and Tamil movies, most recently "Waris Shah - Ishq Daa Waaris". The film is a portrayal of the Punjabi poet Waris Shah`s during the creation of his epic poem Heer Ranjha, again co-starring Juhi Chawla and national award winner Divya Dutta. With Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta, he has also actor as a special guest in the movie Veer-Zaara. And in the year that comes in between he is in the USA doing his shows with his International Promoter Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal and his Bay Area Promoters, Golden Palms Ent. He is married to his wife Manjeet Mann and has one son, Gurik Mann who is at present studying at Eton College in Eton, Berkshire.
