Urmila Matondkar is the name that is easily identifiable among the young generation. She is a Marathi girl and has an image branding her as one of the sex symbols of the industry. Urmila was born on 4th February in the year 1974 in Mumbai. Urmila began early as a child artist and her best-known performance was in director Shekhar Kapoor`s "Masoom" in 1983. Starting early the actress has come a long way embracing stardom and achieving heights in her career.
Urmila`s entry into Hindi films as an "adult actress" happened with the film Narasimha opposite Sunny Deol. It was then quite easy getting offers and hence she was paired opposite today`s superstar Shahrukh Khan in a movie which was everything but realistic. The movie was named "Chamatkar" which was more imaginative. The roles in these movies were not very ambitious and did not promise much fame and exposure. She then collaborated with Ram Gopal Verma who was charmed by her appeal and beauty; this landed her roles in movies that helped her give a fillip to her almost non-existent film career. She worked with him for the first time in "Drohi" on the year 1992. The big surprise came in with "Rangeela" in the year 1995. This movie was declared a hit and even the music of the movie became very popular. Urmila is a notable dancer and has a huge fan following, especially after this movie she was even tagged as the most happening diva with lots of sex appeal and oomph.
Urmila Matondkar received the Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination for this film. She then never had to look back as many other Ram Gopal Verma projects followed like Daud in 1997, Satya in 1999, Kaun in 1999, Mast in 2000, Jungle in 2000, Pyar Tune Kya Kiya in 2001, Bhoot in 2003, Ek Hasina Thi in 2004. "Judai" produced in 1990s is considered the best and she received many nominations for Best Supporting Actress in the film. This film after "Rangeela" can be counted among her successful ventures. Not only she acted in hardcore glamorized roles but she was seen proving her worth as a more serious actress with an absolutely de-glamorized role in Satya. Kaun which was a thriller of the psychological kinds and the Bhoot a horror movie and she won the Filmfare Best Performer Award for the first time, Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards and Bollywood Movie awards. She proved her caliber by acting in different roles like the other in Ek Hasina Thi, opposite Saif Ali Khan and highly appreciated in Jahnu Barua`s art film "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara". Being a great Dancer she was recently spotted in an item song in the remake of Sholay, on the song which was performed by yesteryear`s Helen. There are item numbers which were famous like in China Gate, Company, Lajja and so on.
Films like "Naina didn`t do any good to her and at present times there have not been any notable performance on screen as an actress. May be in times to come her fans can get to see more of her the one who performed challenging roles.
