The extremely talented Bollywood actor Rahul Roy has created waves in the film industry in the 1990s with his super hit flick `Aashqui`. Born on 9th February 1969 this great actor was successful in making a big mark in the world of acting in the initial stages of his career. In fact his first film was such a resounding hit that he kept on signing projects one after the other and took more on his plate than he can really handle. Among the rest of the films he had signed in that time only two of them, `Junoon` and `Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayi` which received huge praises. But his following projects were mostly crap and were responsible for his doom.

About his choice of different kind of films at that time Rahul Roy claimed in a recent interview those films of his would have been better if the Indian cinema would not have been in a transient period. He just got trapped in some plain and simple love sagas and action flicks which did not help him to display his acting mettle on the global front. As of now he is more concerned about his second innings and claims that there was a plahse when he has gone without any film, advertisement and serial. He felt that it would be better to join his family business and he followed his heart. He got married to the super-model Raj Laxmi Roy and is now a very contented man. When he looks back at his life today he has no regrets.
In the second innings however Rahul Roy seems to be more interested in making a career in television. He had also come out of his initial inhibitions about acting on a small medium and had kept on refusing plum roles on television. He was mostly feared by a backlash of comments from the public. But when he saw that top personalities from the tinsel town had no qualms about entering the small medium to showcase their talents he also set out to prove his worth. He made his television debut with the Zee show `Kaise Kahoon`. He then went onto make a great appearance in the blockbuster television show `Karishma - The Miracles of Destiny` which featured none other than the very gorgeous Bollywood damsel Karishma Kapoor.
About his television experience Rahul Roy claims that television does not pay in proportion to the hard work that they extract from their actors and in spite of the producer and director`s attempts of controlling the show, the channel remains to be the king. He also holds the strong belief that a good actor needs to adjust and adapt to the circumstances. In the television industry also he wants to work with like-minded people and would not mind sitting at home rather than working with people where he has to drag himself out of the house every morning. About doing films he claims that he is not really interested to take up work where he will have to just be involved in a love-triangle or take revenge from somebody. He is not interested in such projects anymore. Rather he desires to take up such roles, which are of the Farhan Akhtar types, and has great amount of substance in it. He is just waiting for good roles to come up his way. Till that time he is satisfied not making any appearance in films. He is also thinking about taking to direction as he had gained enough experience and exposure in the Bollywood Film Industry.
After his unsuccessful stint with the Hindi films Rahul Roy has also done a Marathi film called `Chaava`. He was also in the great show `Agneepath` which made a grand entry on the DD channel sometime back. He also claims that the reach of Doordarshan is amazing and incomparable as well as he can reconnect with the audience at large. He was also very excited to walk in the show as Raman Kumar has been his acquaintance since his `Aashiqui` days and knows well what he is looking for. He also asserts the fact the monetary factor is important in the acting career but more than that the creative freedom takes the front stage when the satisfaction of an artiste is talked about. He also does not mind rejecting a popular channel like Star or Sony is he does not feel happy with the content and claims that he has done so in the past as well. Also he is very happy with the fact that the Government channels are a bit more conservative when it comes to airing scenes, which enables them the scope for meaningful content rather than `masala flicks`.
In the recent past Rahul Roy was also in the news after winning the Indian reality show `Big Brother` which was based on the hugely popular U.K. reality show `Big Brother`. The actor won the contest on the basis of maximum public votes and walked away cash prize of a whopping amount of Rs. 50 lakhs. He was handed over the prize money by none another than popular Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi who was also hosting the show. After winning the show the actor claimed that the game was not that easy as it seemed to be. Not being one of the recently popular heroes in the film industry this show would now prove to be a great turning point in his career. Now only time will be evidence of the fact whether he would be able to make use of his victory in gaining his old status in Bollywood. There is indeed a lot more to expect from this actor in the coming times as he promises to come back with a big bang.
