Vasumathi Badrinathan the proponent of carnatic music reshaped the intensity of Carnatic music.

Vasumathi Badrinathan was born into a family where music has been idolized with a strong intensity. So it was obvious for Vasumathi Badrinathan to be deeply inclined towards the artistry. Today she has been reckoned as one amongst the highly skilled vocalist of Carnatic music, the classical style of music from Southern India. With the hands of her mother late Smt. Padma Seshadri, the world of music has been revealed to her. Her mother was a talented singer.

Later on Vasumathi Badrinathan has underwent training under Smt. T. R. Balamani, the reputed music guru. At a very young age the artistic tradition that her mother used to follow has been instilled within her. Her mother was a student of late Yageneswara Bhagavathar and Smt. Balamani - disciple of the legendary late Musiri Subramanya Iyer and Sri. T. K. Govinda Rao. That is how by virtue of her training Vasumathi Badrinathan imbibed a rich traditional paathanthara.

Vasumathi Badrinathan throughout her professional career has widely executed in and outside India. For that she has toured in an extensive manner in Europe and Asia Pacific countries. She has performed both the art form Dance and Music on various highly acclaimed occasions. Vasumathi Badrinathan has always magnetized her audiences through her performances. Apart from that she has also executed many lecture demonstrations and workshops to her credit and all that has received well appreciation through out. She has been conferred the Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India, for music. this fellowship has been awarded to outstanding young artistes. Acknowledging her proficiency in music, Vasumathi Badrinathan has been awarded the title "Sur Mani" by the Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai. Over the All India Radio, one of India`s strongest upholders of classical music her music is often broadcast.

To her credit Vasumathi Badrinathan has released two classical music albums namely, `Swara Dhwani` and `Tamil Padams`. Currently she is involved in research work based on `Divya Prabandham (Tamil poetry of the 5th - 9th century) and its relevance to music`. She has also presented papers at various seminars. Vasumathi is also an able dancer of Bharata Natyam, a classical dance style of South India besides music. One of India`s most revered and celebrated masters in the field - Kalaimamani Guru T.K. Mahalingam Pillai, of Sri Rajarajeswari Bharata Natya Kala Mandir, Mumbai has groomed her in this art from.

As an artiste, Vasumathi has earned reputation of being a performer of both music and dance.
