Shevaroy Hills are another name for Selvarayan range of hills. They are situated near Salem
in the Tamil Nadu state of India
. These detached hill ranges cover an area of 400 km2 with plateaus from 4000 to 5000 ft. above sea-level. The plateaus are situated at an elevation of four thousand to five thousand feet above mean sea level.
Etymology of Shevaroy Hills
The local Tamil name is derived from a local deity, Servarayan, which means Chera king. The term Selvarayan in Tamil
means, 'the beautiful one'.
Attractions of Shevaroy Hills
People from various places visit these hills due to their peaceful and quite nature. The major attractions in the Shevaroy Hills are Orchidarium administered by the Botanical Survey of India
and the old coffee
estates. Shevaroy Hills offer good opportunity for trekking
