
Rewalsar Lake is a square shaped lake located in the
Mandi district of
Himachal Pradesh. It is situated twenty-four kilometers from the town of Mandi. With a shoreline of 735 metres, the lake is situated at an altitude of 1360 metres above mean sea level. It rests on a mountain spur, which is covered, with dense vegetations.
The Hindus, Sikhs and the Buddhists consider it a sacred lake. It is said that the great teacher Padmasambhava went to Tibet from Rewalsar. It is believed that he still resides in a tiny island of floating reed that floats over the water. Rewalsar has three Buddhist monastries and three Hindu temples, which are devoted to
Lord Krishna,
Lord Shiva and to the sage Lomas. Near the lake there is a small zoo. The Lake of Kunt Bhyog along with six other lakes are located at a height of 1,750 metres above mean sea level lies above Rewalsar.
