A census town, namely Kherdi, is located in the Ratnagiri district of the state of Maharashtra.

A single visit of the states of India enables any one to come across number of towns and cities that have flourished by leaps and bounds. The state of Maharashtra also is not an exception in this matter. In fact Kherdi is the name of a census town, which has its location in the district of Ratnagiri of the same state of India. Chiplun town is at the nearest distance from Kherdi.

Over the years multiple of demographers have dedicated ample time in conducting numerous surveys and research works in Kherdi. Their sole purpose was to throw some light on the current demographical traits like literacy rate, population status etc. Thus amongst the reports that have been brought out it would be unfair if one does not mention about the name of a census report of a particular year. This report was published in the year 2001. Still today, as the experts have opined, it acts as vital document, which narrates the latest scenario of Kherdi town`s demography.

Thus according to this report, Kherdi has showed a population measurement of 10,703. Out of it, in Kherdi male populace constitutes 53 %, while the total population of females constitutes 47 % only. In Kherdi, children who are below six years of age constitute 15 % of the population.

It is the opinion of experts that literacy condition shows how much development has occurred in a particular city. If its literacy condition is fairly good there can be no question of that city`s growth then. So far as Kherdi is apprehended, 75 % is the rate of average literacy, which is even higher than that of India, which constitutes 59.5 %. Specifications about male and female literacy rates too can be inferred from this report. Male literacy rate constitutes 79 %. In comparison, rate of female literacy is also no less insignificant thereby constituting 70 %.
