The sacred temple of Himachal Pradesh, the Bijli Mahadev Temple lies a few kilometers from Kullu. Located amidst the lush green Himalayas, the Bijli Mahadev Temple is a fine place to get the panoramic view of the Kullu valley.
The temple is located at the top of a hill and it shines like a needle in the sun. It is believed that every flash of lightening smashes to smithereens the Shiva Linga and the Priest restores it again with butter and satoo. The cycle of destruction and restoration continues with the time. It is also believed that Lord Shiva absorbs the energy discharged and saves the atmosphere from destruction. The outsiders are not allowed to see the act of restoring the Linga.
This temple is an architectural marvel and is crafted wonderfully. There are figures of Nandi Bulls guarding the temple door. During the months of Sravana a fair is held in the temple.
