Baba Sehgal is regarded as the first successful Indi-Pop star of the Indian subcontinent and was almost raised to the status of an iconic rapper in the mid 90`s. He first catapulted to fame with the famous lyric "Thanda Thanda Pani" which was a remake of `Ice Ice Baby` by Vanilla Ice. His real name was Harjit Singh Sehgal. Very few people are aware of this fact that he was an engineer by profession but he did not want to pursue his career in the hardcore technical field. He always had this inclination towards music from a very tender age and went ahead to rock the whole nation with the tuneful lyrics of `Thanda Thanda Pani`. He was also credited for being the man behind the first rap album of India `Dil Dhadke`. This music video created such rage that it went on to become the first Indian music video that won the MTV US award in the international arena.

Among the solo albums of Baba Sehgal the first one which brought him a round of applause was `Dilruba` released in the year 1990 and the second one was Ali Baba which saw the light of day in the following year. He gained the maximum popularity with his third album `Thanda Thanda Pani`. In fact the success, which he gained through this album, helped him to sell his first two albums at a quicker pace. This very talented singer has released as many as 22 albums out of which many were huge hits. His latest music album is `Welcome to Mumbai` which he released after coming back from New York where he stayed around 4 to 5 years. His fans are surprised by his inborn talents, which he displayed by being a stage performer and a model. He also starred in the lead role in the Bollywood flick `Miss 420`.

This Indi-pop star almost disappeared from the Indian Music Industry post 2000. He almost made his base at United States and started taking up lots of stage shows there. In fact these shows involved a whopping sum and also helped him to earn his bread and butter. Following that he returned to India and started hosting Television shows. In the recent past his fans saw him hosting the hugely popular show `Santa Banta Newz Unlimited`. He was also doing a reality show for the popular Zee Television channel. At present he is working on a Telugu album, which has been penned down by Sobha Reddy. He is very much confident that this album will bring a lot of freshness in the life of those people who are heavily inclined towards music and will also be a very entertaining product. It was indeed a very challenging task for him to learn Telugu and then do a rap album in the very language. But he is also very hopeful that he will succeed it with the help of producer Raju Hirwani. This talented soul also holds tremendous respect for another Indi-pop singing sensation Himesh Reshammiya.

About the singing contests that are held across the country Baba Sehgal claims that these are being held just to increase the TRP ratings of the different television channels. According to him the South film industry also holds great talents. His current projects include the music for a film titled `Lonawala Khandala Ghar` which is slated for release very soon. He also has couple of Telugu songs in his kitty apart from the album and he is seriously considering a career in Telugu. His fans can expect much more from him in the coming times and he is sure not to let his fans down by any means.
