The University of Jammu was established in 1969, is located at Jammu Tawi in Jammu District of the northern most state of India, Jammu and Kashmir.

The University has two campuses, the new campus is located at Bahu Wali Rakh and the old campus is located at Canal Road. The university has thirty-three teaching departments offering postgraduate, M Phil, Ph D and D Lit in different disciplines and some diploma courses. The University also offers distance educations at postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
