The state of Jharkhand was carved out of the state of Bihar in the year 2000 with Ranchi as its capital. The rich cultural heritage of Jharkhand is manifested in the literature, music and folk dances of the region. Academically, the Universities of Jharkhand has advanced knowledge in the region. The Universities cover the total spectrum of higher education in the state.

The Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University was formerly known as the Bhagalpur University. The University has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

Siddhu Kanhu University was previously known as Siddhu Kanhu University. It is affiliated to the Association of Indian Universities.

Ranchi University is a teaching cum affiliating University, which was established on 12th July 1960.
