In the state of Maharashtra, multitudes of towns and cities have developed by leaps and bounds. Katai is quite significant amongst them. Katai is the name of a census town , lying in the district of Thane of the same state of India.

Knowledge about demographical scenario is imperative in order to narrate the identifiable features of Katai town. So after conducting research works for a prolonged period of time they have succeeded in depicting demographical aspects viz. population status , literacy rate etc. The most relevant one is the Census report that has been published in the year 2001. As has been mentioned in this report, the total population of Katai has been enumerated to be 11,250. Interestingly number of females in Katai is quite less in comparison to male populace. Thus male populace constitutes of 74 percent population. However female populace of Katai is as low as 26 percent. In Katai, children who are below six years of age comprises of 11 percent of the total population .

As per the report , the average literacy rate of Katai has been deduced to be 67 percent which is higher than that of the entire nation. 59.5 percent is the average literacy rate of India. Gap also exists between literacy rates of both males and females in Katai. Female literacy rate is 45 percent . Chikoos , guavas, mangoes, papayas, grapefruits and coconuts are important fruits of the district . In the state of Maharashtra , Thane has been ranked third amongst all the industrialized districts. There are 1548 large and medium scale and 18,480 small scale industries in the district. Drugs, Textiles, Adhesives, Plastics, Rubber, Steel, Pharmaceuticals, Engineering, Fertilizers, Electronics, Chemicals and Iron and Steel are various industrials products of Thane. Due to the integrity of Thane district it is quite natural that people who are residing in Katai town too is going to follow same trend and tradition.
