Kashmiri Language

Quite a number of languages have flourished in the soils of Indian subcontinent. The expert linguists have demarcated Kashmiri language to be significant. After researching for several years they have been able to throw some light on Kashmiri language. In fact Kashmiri language has gained acclamation for falling into the category of Scheduled languages of Indian continent. Total number of scheduled languages of India is 23 and Kashmiri is one of them.

The origin of Kashmiri language is noteworthy. Kashmiri language has a belonging to Indo Aryan language group of the Indo- European family. Many also claims that Kashmiri language also belongs to `a geographical sub-grouping` namely Dardic.

Major concentration of Kashmiri language is in the Kashmir valley of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. In other places of India like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, people carry on conversation in this beautiful Kashmiri language.

Experts are of the opinion that there are 4,611,000 speakers of Kashmiri language in the whole world. Indian speakers comprise of 4,391,000.

There are many people in India who identify Kashmiri language in diverse names. Keshur, Kaschemiri, Cashmiri, Cashmeeree, Kacmiri are the alternative names of Kashmiri language.

Kashmiri language is enriched with a variety of dialects. The standard one is Kashtawari. Other dialects of Kashmiri language are Bakawali, Bunjwali, Standard Kashmiri, Kishtwari (Kashtawari, Kistwali, Kashtwari, Kathiawari), Miraski, Poguli, Rambani, Riasi, Shah-Mansuri, Siraji of Doda, Siraji-Kashmiri, Zayoli, Zirak-Boli. Except Kashtawari , all the other dialects are molded by Dogri.

More lights can be thrown about Kashmiri language. It is considered to be a ` V2 word order language`. Till date Kashmiri language was popular as a spoken language. However, evidences of manuscripts written in the Sharada script, and later in the Perso-Arabic script are found.

Recent achievements of Kashmiri language have elevated its status and prestige to an extent. Interestingly, few years back, Kashmiri language was inaugurated as a subject at the university and the colleges of Kashmir. At present, it is an integral part of school education as well.
