Nestled in the Kanniyakumari district of Tamil Nadu , Kappiyarai, a panchayat town and has got a population of 13,475.

While traveling through out the continent of India, it is inevitable for any person to come across several towns and cities that have developed here by leaps and bounds. The state of Tamil Nadu too is not an exception in this regard. It is the name of a panchayat town lying in the district of Kanniyakumari of the state of Tamil Nadu.

It is not an exaggeration if one claims that knowledge of demographical scenario is a must in order to get a complete identification about Kappiyarai. In order to fulfill the target the eminent demographers have thronged the place so that they can throw some light on certain aspects of its demography like population status, literacy rate etc. Amongst several reports the experts have pin pointed the Census report of a particular years to be quite important.

This census report has been published in the year 2001, citing the fact that the population count of Kappiyarai is 13,475. Interesting in Kappiyarai both males and females are in equal proportion. In Kappiyarai, children who fall into the age group of less than six years constitutes of 9 percent of the total population. To be specific, in the northern side one finds Valvaithankoshtam; on the western side Killiyur is located; also on the south- eastern side and southern part, Thiruvithancode and Balapallam respectively.

In other words literacy rate has become an indicator for measuring the growth of Kappiyarai. As far as the average literacy rate of Kappiyarai is concerned, it is higher than that of the entire nation, which has showed a measurement of 59,5 percent. Since the average literacy rate constitutes of 82 percent thereby leading one to confirm to the development of Kappiyarai in the real sense. Not only that on basis too, both male and female literacy has showed a high percentage. Thus male literacy rate constitutes of 84 percent. Also remarkably, the rate of female literacy too is no less insignificant constituting 80 percent.

Padmanabhapuram Palace Tourists find Kappiyarai to be ideal locales to visit. The primary attractions are Colachel Port, Adhikesava Perumal Temple at Thiruvattar, Padmanabhapuram Palace, Sanguthurai Beach, Manavalakurichi, Muttam and Nagercoil . These places are situated in the neighborhood. .

In Kappiyarai access points have developed so that local residents can reach other places as quickly as possible. One can reach places like Nagercoil and Kuzhithurai via roadways. `Trivandrum International Airport`, `Kuzhithurai Railway Station` and also Nagercoil Junction Railway Station lie in close proximity.
