Dr. Hari Singh Gour University is located at Sagar in Madhya Pradesh.It is mostly known as University of Sagar.The University was established in the year 1946.The University was named after the founder Sir Hari Singh Gour.He was one of the renowned educators of India. Sir Hari Singh Gour contributed 2 crore of rupees to the University.

The University campus is one of the beautiful campuses in India ,which occupies 830.3 hectares of land.Apart from the admiknistrative and academic buildings the campus contains University Auditorium, Computer Centre, Sports Ground ,Separate hostels for boys and girls, University Hospital ,Bank, Post Office Canteen, Guest House Placement Cell etc.The Central Library namely Jawaharlal Nehru Library is also located inside the campus ,which contains more than 3,10,000 books in various subjects.There are nearly 20 colleges affiliated to the University. The university has been admitted as the member of Association of Commonwealth Universities , United Kingdom.

The University offers Bachelor, Master, Doctorate, Diploma, Certificate courses in various discplines.There are 36 departments under the faculty of Arts, Social Science, Engineering, Law, Commerce , Science, Life Science , Faculty of Education ,Faculty of Management Studies ,Technology .To meet the demand of the presaent age the University offers new courses in Geology, Pharmacy, Criminology & Forensic Science, Anthropology, Performing Arts, Journalism & Mass Communication, Adult Education, Electronics, Business Management, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Computer Applications.The University has contributed in the field of research works. The University awarded over 3,000 Ph.D, 4 D.Sc, and 37 D.Litt. Degrees. The university also offers different courses in Master degree in Library Science, Bachelor degree in Library science, PG Diploma in Environmental Marketing and Personnel Management, PG Diploma in Criminology and Police Administration etc through distance learning mode. The University regularly organizes seminars and conference in various subjects to enlighten the students. There are some famous centers located in the University. That includes the centers of the Indira Gandhi Open University, the Audiovisual Research Center, the Central Instrumentation Laboratory, Shrimant B.S. Jain Center for Research and Education in Psychology and the Population Research Center. The Govt of India has established most of these centers and the Govt. of M.P has also established a center named the Muktibodh Peetha in the Department of Hindi. The Botanical Garden of the University is one of the famous among the Botanical Gardens of Indian Universities. The research journal of the University named Madhya Bharati and the journal of Botanical Society, The department of Applied Geology attained international fame for the discovery of an impression Edicaranfossil Spriggina.The journal of Dept. of Sanskrit named Sagarika and Natyam and the journal for highlighting Bundelkhandi art and culture named Isuri are also famous at national level.
