She was born in 25th June 1974 in Mumbai. She is born in the illustrious family of the Kapoor`s. her nickname is Lolo. Her eminent and glorious family include her great-grandfather, Prithviraj; grandfather, Raj; Uncles, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. Her father Mr. Randhir Kapoor was a very popular actor during the 1970s and 80s decade and so was her mother Babita. She did her academics from Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. Her younger sister is Kareena Kapoor who is also a well-known actress in her own rights. Karishma Kapoor made her debut with the film, `Prem Quaidi` in the year 1991 opposite Harish and since then she has never looked back.
Karishma Kapoor did many notable and award-winning roles in different movies, the most important being the role of `Raja Hndustani` opposite to Aamir Khan that turned her career in a pinnacle of success. She was awarded with the best actress award for the movie in Filmfare. The following year she received the award of best supporting role for female in the movie, `Dil to Pagal Hain` where she starred opposite to Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Akshay Kumar. After she took a break from film for a year, she announced her return with some of the biggest hits starting with the comedy flick, `Biwi No. 1` paired opposite another very popular Bollywood actor Salman Khan and directed by the renowned filmmaker David Dhawan. She also did some non-commercial movies like `Zubeida` opposite to Manoj Bajpai and Rekha where she was highly praised for her performance.
Karishma`s performance in the movie, `Shakti - The Power` in the year 2002, gave her the nomination in the Best Actress category. Some of the most outstanding movies include, `Andaz Apna Apna`, `Gopi Kishan`, `Coolie No. 1`, `Saajan Chale Sasural`, and so on. In 2003 she played the leading role in the television series Karishma: A Miracle of Destiny. After her film, "Baaz: A Bird In Danger" which also released in the same year 2003, she took a break from films for three years. Her most recent release was the delayed film; `Mere Jeevan Saathi` in the year 2006 in which she portrayed a negative role also earned her a huge round of accolades.
On the personal front also Karishma Kapoor is a very happy and contented soul. After her enigmatic and excellent film career, she tied the knot with the industrialist Sanjay Kapur.
